ahhhhh im so happy to see you back!!! btw I have a little tips that can save you some times while doing fill-ups, you can put directly your ink cup on your skin and stick it with some vaseline to avoid it falling. with this method you're don't need to make those lazy round trip from your desk to your leg that can be very annoying on a 2hour tattoo :) see ya soon I hope

Oooh I gotta try this! Last time I was poking I had the thought, "man this is kinda like ol' timey calligraphy with having to dip into the ink all the time". Recentering myself does take a hot second, so this is a great suggestion. Thank you! (Watch me go to stretch my leg and spill ink everywhere next time, lol.)

Some good advice that’s helped me not have to go over lines so much is pushing a little bit harder and really trying to get that true “click” or “pop” noise. And I’ve learned that holding it at an angle works great as well. 6 times seems like soooo much! Let us know how you’ve progressed since this!

Hey! I'm a handpoke tattoo artist and I've been digging your videos. I just stopped to comment because when you said 6 passes for lines, my jaw honestly dropped. Maybe put the dots closer together/overlapping or use a bit more pressure, or change up the angle? I generally only do 2 (mayyyybe 3) passes, even with 3rls, and that's totally fine for solid lines. Maybe any of that would help save some time!

Thank you! I try to zig zag back and forth like a sewing machine. Sometimes it takes really well and sometimes not at all- I super appreciate your feedback because I have seen other artists go a lot faster with less damage. Maybe my angle is too extreme? I used to have problems keeping ink on 3RL needles, like it wouldn't flow downwards... Tattooing is super complicated and I feel like I barely comprehend the science behind what's going on. I know it's more the suction of the needle being pulled out that pulls ink into the skin... But beyond that I'm still a bit slow.

@ray Im looking to start doing stick and poke and was wondering how many passes it should take. I was hoping it could be done in one pass 😅
@alex-ut3xp

@@expseeker9438 sadly if you only do one pass it will probably turn out scratchy looking due to inevitable spacing of the needle between pokes, I just ordered my first tattoo supplies yesterday and I’ve been watching videos obsessively for a while so I’ve noticed that even professional handpoke artists make multiple passes because as soon as they wipe away the excess ink it looks like a very thin dotted line before the second or third pass to tighten up the spacing issue which usually turns out great as long as people put the time into it to make sure the lines stand out from any possible shading you add. I hope that makes sense, autism makes it difficult to describe how things work visually

Squirrel nuts! It's great to have you back. I've tried a cheap machine from amazon, and it really hurts my hand. What I've noticed that helps to go faster in handpoke is tattooing with more angle (I don't know if I've explained myself well).

A cordless machine I recommend is the Cheyenne Sol Nova Unlimited machine! They’re a bit expensive, in my opinion, but from what I’ve heard from my friends that tattoo it’s amazing. They’re also 10% off currently :) I’ve been saving up for one because they’re low vibration, come with extra rechargeable batteries, and are a lot lighter than coil machines. I have a coil machine that I got as a Christmas gift, but it’s so heavy and the vibration and noise drives me nuts. I’ve only used it once lol.

Also, Maybe try to only poke in one direction and that might save some time and passes! Some angles it’s really not possible to do while also keeping the lines straight, but usually I try to stick to one direction. I always try to move my hand in the opposite direction that the needle is pointing. Kind of like writing with a pen! But even then, all these tips might not even help if your skin just doesn’t hold color that well. I usually only do MAX 4 passes, but that’s if I’m being VERY particular about certain spots not being as saturated as others. I hope this helps! I appreciate your vids!

Thanks for your videos! I noticed that you have two squeeze bottles on your station. I assume those are green soap solution and distilled water? Could you maybe explain when to use green soap and when to use distilled water along the process? That would be awesome 😊.

Sorry for late response but Vaseline is pretty thick- I have it around to keep my ink cups stable, etc, but I prefer how thin tattoo balm gets for tattooing purposes.

Hey sorry for a late reply but I find stick and poke to be way less painful. After several passes it can get sensitive, but more often than not that's from giving myself razor burn before hand
