If you press the trigger while going up from full choke, you go straight to "run/on" setting, not semi-choke. Move the lever up one notch without press the trigger for semi-choke, then blip the trigger once it starts to go to move it automatically to "run/on".

Well to be fair. There’s not a single minute of this video that implies that this gentleman is going to do anything other than harm himself and possibly others with this saw. I’ve never one made a safety comment on a video. But this is horrifying. No matter how he started the saw.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll make sure to mention this to him. I think that rot in the tree contributed to how it fell some as well.

@@WalterRitchey the rot was spooky. Him not checking for it was far worse. But then the fact that neither of the cuts in the wedge were level or perpendicular to the tree….. I mean, what?

No I get it, we are novices. But we needed a saw that size to fall a dead 50+ year old oak tree that was a risk to the farm house. He cuts a LOT of wood, but it’s not his job, just hobby and necessity for property maintenance. We didn’t see much info on this model and wanted to help others before dropping this much money on a saw. Hopefully it provides some value to those considering one.

If it's a dedicated hand falling saw you should have got the rap around handle
@em4703
2 жыл бұрын
Maybe he wants to use it for stumping too, in which case the wrap handle is in the way. There's no need for a wrap saw for homeowner use anyway, it's not like he's cutting on a slope or doing production cutting where every second matters. He can always just switch sides on the tree or cut with the top part of the bar if needs be.
@WalterRitchey

He's mostly using it for home and farm use to remove dead trees and split for firewood. He doesn't do anything commercial, but we do like nice things.

You aren’t running ethanol gas in your saw are you? You want to use a better oil that the Stihl too. Who taught you how to tighten your chain/bar? I think you’re in over your head. No safety gear while cutting either?
@WalterRitchey

Stihl sells their own synthetic premixed fuel, VP Racing does too. This saw is running on 93 Octane gas mixed with Stihl synthetic premix (grey bottles). More safety gear acquired since this video, not to worry. Also use caution running a saw.

Im thinking 661 over 500i. But im not sure. I want a Long bar saw. seams like the 661 takes a back seat to the 500i on some things. And the 362 takes a back seat to the 400... Eh
@Jamie-wayne

Hey I have all the saws you mentioned and just from experience if you’re not bucking large logs or in need of the 36 inch bar I’d suggest the 362. 362 is a solid running saw with plenty of power and not so hard on your back. I love my 661 but after 8 hrs of running it in smaller 15 to 25 inch stuff it’s really heavy and takes all the fun out of cutting wood. Good luck with whatever you choose both are great saws.
