Have an Eastern European Sheppard, and he is crazy intelligent. He does a low tone growl sound when he is talking to others in our family. He has not once growled at me and seems to look at me as the leader because he takes his commands from me without a second of hesitation. I was gifted him from someone who had him in a kennel most hours that was super small. He now has an acre to mark and call his own. Love this boy, and I can't imagine I will ever be so lucky again. He is still young though, and has all his parts so maybe we get lucky and find a nice bitch to fill that role and get some puppies. I 100% understand your last bit too. "To us that is". This dog has loyalty and protection in his DNA. Hardwired to stop anyone or thing that is not been vetted.

@@perlundgren7797 Because this is exactly how you train domestic dogs to be okay with certain touches. If a person went in with his same energy, I'm sure they would be fine. It's about finding mutual respect. The wolves domesticated were pups taken from dens. Because when you feed an animal it always comes back. (Source - I feed a barn cat that is only my friend because I feed it.) It's easy to see, with RESPECTFUL manipulation you can teach any animal that you respect it. In which case you get a situation like this guy has.
@perlundgren7797
10 ай бұрын
@@shawndavid1845 Feel free to google the Kolmården wolf attack. These were wolves used to visits from the general public, and the keeper had known them since they were bottle-fed pups. Turned out it was only fine until it suddenly wasn't. Timothy Treadwell/Grizzly Man also comes to mind. Not sure how a cat befriending you only because of you feeding it would be an argument _for_ the safety of anyone "with the right energy". And again: We managed to domesticate wolves with a certain gene variation. We didn't domesticate the ancestors of today's wolves. Seems like that could be relevant. Anyone can do anything in a KZitem comment section, but it's also pretty easy to see that potentially dangerous animals have a tendency to occasionally remind us that we actually don't live in a Disney movie.

I used to foster a socially awkward cat that would growl and hiss all the time. It took me a while to realize that's how she asks for food and attention. I ended up adopting her. She still will come up to me and hiss and growl at me until I cuddle her or play with her. She acts just this wolf. I never knew a cat could hiss while purring. She is one of the sweetest cats I've ever met.....she's just, awkward. Animals are weird lol Edit: Apparently I have to make it abundantly clear that I know there is a difference between wolves and small domestic cats....i promise you, I am aware of this obvious fact. @shannon sanders thank you so much for your recommendation! I looked it up, and it seems very interesting. Since I foster animals, it seems like a good resource for me to look into. In regards to the cat I mentioned, I was fostering her because no one wanted her due to her angry behavior. I think it was because her previous owners mistreated her 😔 I think she still mirrors them. I'm working on being a more calming presence to her.

So many people don't know that wolves growling can be a good thing. They don't bark or anything like dogs. Growls are their normal way of vocalizing and doesn't always mean a threat like with dogs. Remember that while all dogs are descendents of wolves, most of them are very far removed and have evolved different ways of vocalizing specifically to communicate with humans. Wolves haven't.
@Mightydoggo

Yes, thank you! I was lucky enough to visit a wolf dog preserve(the guy who owned it trained them for stage and screen like the newest Sorcerer’s Apprentice) in New Jersey and have the dog with the highest percentage, 98%, of wolf claim me. When his enclosure mate woke and decided to check me out, the big guy growled, more of a back off this one is petting me not you, but without his body language would’ve seemed menacing. I was petting him at the time and could feel his posture so I just kept petting him. Everyone else jumped a little. Many don’t realize how important their posture is to context. It’s like how the phrase eff you can go from joking to dead serious depending on context and tone.

@@351clevelandmodifiedmotor4 just wrong. Wolves are a different SPECIES, both are related but are few millennium apart in genetics. It's like saying you are a chimpanzee, it's the amount of time they have to separate genetics. And wolves don't bark past pups due to vocal chords changing as they grow larger.
