Recorded yesterday, Oct. 20, 2022.
So, some backstory to this building. At the very end of 2016, I decided to stop by here to see what they had in terms of elevators. Turns out the elevators here were original from 1970, complete with the (now very rare) touch sensitive fixtures Otis was famous for. Sadly, in mid 2017, I would take my last ride on those elevators as they were undergoing a modernization. By 2018, all but one of the elevators in the building had been upgraded with Otis Series M2 fixtures... except for a service elevator for the first 15 floors of the building. I came back here in mid 2019 and early 2021, wondering what the status of this elevator was, and sure enough it was still original. And then I decided shortly after that I don't really like poking around in office buildings, so I haven't made any visits here since.
Until yesterday, when I was in the area and I decided to give this place another visit because why not. Instead of going straight for the high rise elevators, which is something I normally do in tall buildings like this one, I decided to check up on this elevator. And sure enough, even though it's been over five years since the passenger elevators got modded... this one's still original! It's not in perfect condition by any means, but it's amazing this elevator is still holding up 52 years after it was installed. This is easily one of my favorite elevators in the city and definitely my favorite elevator in the building.
