Thank you! Very informative. As a headshot photographer, which of their plugins would you recommend for me?

What plugins do you feel like you recommend or use the most?

In this order for me: 1. Dodge and Burn - micro D&B is by far the biggest time suck in retouching and this plugin does an amazing job. This plugin is also always useful, whereas others on the list may not have an impact depending on the subject / goals. This one is in a class of its own and is probably 5x the value of the next on the list. 2. Heal - great for diminishing and removing raised areas on the skin. Have to be cautious when using on someone with beauty marks / freckles. 3. Mattifier - awesome to have in the back pocket to tackle oily skin 4. Skin Tone - excellent tool, refined result but low visual impact. 5. Eye vessel / brilliance - the brilliance tool has lost some of its value given LR’s auto masks, but the vessel tool is still great, provided you’re doing closeup headshot or beauty work. 6. Skin mask - subject select is great but being able to grab skin without touching hair/clothing/eyes can be paired with other retouching tools to really increase your speed. 7. Portrait Volumes - great global dodge and burn for adding depth/contrast. But, this is pretty easy to do manually. 8. Color Match - really only useful if you aren’t advanced with curves and masking. Searching for photos to find one with colors you want to take also isn’t conducive to a workflow in general. Also I could see if you don’t possess the skillset to do this quickly manually, you probably don’t have the experience to understand what images qualify as a good reference candidate according to your target image, which would just result in them often being disappointed. 8. Whiten teeth (as well as eye Brilliance) has very little utility now that Lightroom can tackle it with Batch operations via subject masks.

Great video! I’ve found that for darker skin tones, retouch4me is a hit and miss particularly the dodge and burn plugin. I’ve written to them and they pretty much dismissed my complaint. I’m a working photographer and have edited many images using these plugins and my observation still remains. Perhaps sometime you can run these tests yourself

Their products are good, but their support is absolutely horrendous. They mock and make fun of customers. Mattifier and Fabric constantly crash, and they don’t care.

I should post screenshots of my discussions with their support. You would be shocked. They are unreal.

Go for it! I believe in transparency so if you want to link screenshots I won’t hide it. By default I have links blocked (channel gets a horrible amount of spam link comments) but just reply to this if you decide to link them. I’ll say this in defense (of crashing, not mocking), the machine really plays a big role here. I have never had mattifier or fabric crash. The only one that ever crashed regularly for me was Clean Backdrop but it was resolved with an update within a few weeks of it starting.
