With the limited capacity on most coasters, I'm sure it messes with how smooth the coasters go due to lack of weight per row. That's one thing I enjoyed at Hershey. They used every row for Candymonium, Fahrenheit, and their Boomerang. 6 Flags finally start using all rows at Great Adventure for Nitro and Bizzaro, but not for El Toro, Harley Quinn, Bat Man or Mine Train. And, at Dorney, they skipped every other Aisle on Talon, Hydra, and every other car on Steel Force and Thunderhawk and the rides were NOT smooth at all.

as a ride operator at SDC we only run 1 train most of the time due to the park hurting for staff. It takes more staff in order run multiple trains on the coasters. We ran outlaw Run during moonlight madness which we are open 7 days a week and open for 12 plus hours a day with only 5 employees and it takes 6 of us to run 2 trains with breaks. I had over 70 hours in one week. Also the reason of Time Traveler sometimes running full trains is because their cars are actually spaced out over 6ft. so if they get 4 groups of 4 they can fill the whole train.
@AirtimeThrills
4 жыл бұрын
What's the reason that 2 trains would require more staff?
@JLWGames
4 жыл бұрын
@@AirtimeThrills I don't really know but it's in the ride manuals and that's just how SDC operates it. Outlaw only takes 3 to run 1 train. One on load side, one on unload, and an operator. 2 trains takes 2 load, 2 unload, and an operator. My guess is that 2 trains we have to move faster and having more staff helps us dispatch the trains faster maybe? SDC is also super strict on safety as well which is good. I don't know if you know but Mystic River Falls has been nothing but a huge headache for SDC. It has been down nearly 70% of the time this season. Hope they figure it out in the offseason.

@@JLWGames I have to agree on the latter part of your statement, I love SDC to death but I fear they created another Buzzsaw Falls with Mystic River Falls. (maybe a ride with the word "Falls" in it is cursed lol) And yes the former was a technical nightmare too before it got scrapped for Powderkeg. In retrospect I wished they kept Lost River and made MRF as a secondary ride. I hate saying I was disappointed with it but I was.

Hey Chris, Tim here (met you at Thunder Run at Keys to the Kingdom) we visited SDC during COVID, and I loved what they were doing as far as COVID measures. Every park should be doing the rule of seating a group together, then skip a row; as opposed to closing every other row. It really irked me at parks after that when they just closed every other row, which lead to 8-16 people per dispatch on a B&M. Also, they were putting hand sanitizer in everyone's hands as they were assigned a row, which let them only clean the trains once per hour, as opposed to every 30 minutes. It definitely is my favorite theme park I've been to in the US so far 😄 just wish it was closer to Arizona haha

It's not split into separate theme areas like Islands of Adventure where you walk ten feet and you've gone from Jurassic Park to Hogwarts. The whole place is meant to feel like you've gone back to a simpler time with blacksmiths, glass blowers, bread mills, etc. They have a ton of state of the art rides too, but being that the park is set in the middle of hilly woods you can't see most of them until you're in the queue or actually on the ride itself.

I know I'm old..ancient...but every year in the 70s my family went on vacation from KCMO to Branson..and SDC. We didn't go for rides..we had rollercoasters in Kansas City...we went for the atmosphere and the theme...crafts, food and fun. In fact, they actually had to 'hide' the first rollercoaster at SDC (Fire in The Hole)..I never forgave them for that!! I get it..SDC needs to compete with the ride parks. I just miss the park of my childhood where Fire in The Hole was the surprise crazy rollercoaster ride!

I went on 9/11 and it was the same one train ops and Wildfire headache. They would fill a train only if all the people on the train were in the same party. They would also spray the trains down with disinfectant and send them around empty to dry them off once every 30 mins. This made Time Traveler and Powder Keg waits to about 45 minutes on a Friday morning. I rode the back car row 7 on Time Traveler and the giant horseshoe turn put us to the sky all the way around! Never felt that on any coaster... it was the closest thing to being thrown through space I have ever felt! I exited the train in row 8 facing backwards. I'd put Time Traveler as #1, Outlaw Run at #2 and Powder Keg as #3. Time Traveler has moved to my personal #1 with 83 credits in the bag. I am a huge fan of water rides and Mystic River is terrible. It was broken down half of the day due to the elevator, but I timed it just right swinging back by for one more chance at it and I was the second raft up after ops began again. Some people were stuck up to 45 mins on the elevator and it happened multiple times that day. Due to social distancing I was the only one on my raft. If you sit by the stair entrances on the raft you get soaked. The splash at the end is weak along with the drop. It feels like you are sliding down carpet and stops abruptly. The only real memorable moments are the elevator and coming off of the elevator, down the rollers and onto the water slide. That was terrifying! Rollers are weird and it slams the boat down into the water slide segment. The rest of the river portions have deep holes that rock the boat overly hard and the path is narrow for the boats to navigate dispelling some fun turns and subtle differences for repeat rides. Overall I wouldn't waste coaster time to ride this one again. I really liked the log flume though with its tunnel and soaking end splash. Overall the theming of the park is great (for a non Disney park). Well worth the visit (especially since I hit a flash sale for $40 entry). I will be back! Might even bring the kids this time..... KUNGALOOSH!!!!

Before Christmas last year, I picked a heck of a year to get season passes to a theme park for the first time in my whole life. But I finally got some of my money's worth a few weeks ago, when I went to SDC for 3 consecutive days. I was never there for longer than about 4 hours for any of the 3 days, though. The middle day was the the only day I wasn't there alone. The first day I rode all of the adult coasters but Fire in the Hole and Powderkeg. I was in line for Powderkeg the first day when it broke down. I was only about 2 or 3 half-capacity trainloads away from riding, but a train came in and it looked like the restraints weren't releasing properly. They told us they weren't sure how long it would take to fix, so I skedaddled. The next two days Powderkeg was always single train operations, even on Saturday. I don't know how many total trains SDC had for Powderkeg, but they were only running 1. So for my 3 days Powderkeg was always the longest wait. I did it once, on the second day. Still a good ride. Just not worth waiting longer for it than for the other coasters. But I think I noticed that with Powderkeg, instead of spraying the whole train down and cycling the whole train empty once, they were spraying down empty seats, then putting passengers into the other seats, cycling the ride, then changed the seats to spray down and run empty for the next cycle. Time Traveler always had the next longest wait. But well worth it. TT is better in the back, but I got a front row ride once to compare. And because that was where I was told to sit, and didn't feel like waiting for the next train. Yeah, it's better in the back. But something happened during the 3 days that I don't remember experiencing before in prior years, and that was leaving the station facing forward and coming back facing backward. So even with TT's controlled spin, lopsided cars will still affect the spin a slight bit. The queue house mix of bluegrass versions of songs about time is good. I heard Time in a Bottle, Pink Floyd's Time, Cyndi Lauper's Time After Time, and others. I think the youngest song to have a bluegrass instrumental version of it playing is Coldplay's Clocks. Thunderation is quite good, and the wait was never very long. Wildfire was good. The waits for it my 3 days were in the 15-20 minute range. I did it in both the front and back. I like it better in the back. But I don't consider myself an enthusiast with a credit count, so I can't compare it with other B&M sitdown looping coasters. My sister complains that she is just the wrong height for it. If she was a little shorter or a little taller, she thinks she'd be good on it, but as it is she has the perfect height for hitting her ears on the over the shoulder restraints. Fire in the Hole is always worth doing at least once, but I think at my adult height of 6'2'' or 6'3" I tend to slide my knee forward into a hard surface at the front of my car on the drops. Which is a deterrent to marathoning. Still worth doing once a visit, though. Outlaw Run is still awesome, but the original RMC Topper Track coaster might be due to have the topper track re-topped. It probably lends itself to short lines that way, however. But even with short lines, I would ride it 2 or 3 times, then do something else, and maybe come back to it after a few hours. I rode it in both the front and back, as is my norm. It gives more hangtime on inversions in the front, but it is better overall in the back. The new rapids ride was completely drained on Friday, was troubleshooting or something on Saturday, so it was closed but I could sometimes see rafts cycling empty. Sunday it was open, but I was wearing long pants instead of shorts, the forecast was for a high only in the mid 70s F, and I knew I wasn't going to be there all day. So I will wait until a warm day next spring to try that out. I regret not spending more time at the living history sites or craft demonstrations, or seeing shows on my September 2020 3 day visit, but I had fun, and I never got a headache so bad that I had to give myself a breather from rides.

I go every year and got a night ride on Time Traveler and it slaps!! Didn't get to ride Outlaw Run at night but hopefully we can this year. I'm slowly becoming a coaster fanatic lol

I haven't been to any theme park in America but the parks that look the best to me are both of the Busch Gardens parks, Universal Islands of Adventure and Silver Dollar City

I just got back from visiting SDC and was very disappointed. It was the first theme park I ever visited so it holds a special place in my heart. The social distancing on the rides just meant that the wait times were longer, but all the people around you in line may or may not wear their masks and definitely would not keep their distance making the ride distancing pointless. The ride operators were incredibly rude to anyone who dared to speak to them. I don't entirely blame the workers for this, as I'm sure that they are working overtime to make up for people being out sick, and probably tired of people fighting with them over the masks and distancing rules. That being said I witnessed them being rude to people who were just confused and asking for clarification on what the operator needed them to do, and not just once or twice but nearly every ride had rude operators. I was there with my daughter so unfortunately most of my time was spent on the smaller rides, but I still was anticipating getting in a ride on Time Traveler and Mystic River falls. Time traveler was down both days that I spent at the park, and Mystic River Falls was never open longer than the 60+ minute line that would form as soon as it opened back up. Overall it was a disappointing trip especially after seeing how good your covid trip was. I'm hoping to go again after things return to normal and hope the experience can be as good as yours and live up to my childhood memories of the park.

If you think a 30 minute line is bad when you come to the UK/Europe you will celebrate for a 30 minute line during the summer

Is it better the dollywood tho? Dollywood has more coaster. Faster coasters. And in my opinion and better location. Better view. More things to do around the park. More shops. More food option. Not to mention Dolly freaking parton

I think they need an airtime machine like a hyper and gravity group family woodie and this park would be legendary

Powder Keg needs to go away. It is always down it seems. Of all the days I've gone this season, it has not been running. the other day was our last day for this season and had the pleasure of being on Time Traveler stopping at the first launch and breaking down. Launch failed so we got to get passes. As for Mystic River.....over rated and also is always breaking down.

If you are a coaster enthusiast, In my opinion Outlaw Run will put a huge grin on your face. Great coaster, fantastic drop, fast and whips you around like we're on a stage coach.

I happen to currently work at the park, if anyone has questions on stuff just let me know, I work over at Powder Keg and riding it everyday in almost every row, has really made it one of my favorite coasters at the park!

I have never been to SDC but after going to parks like cedar point and hearing multiple people with opinions I respect say that this is the best park in America makes me think the coasters they do have and the atmosphere, Opps, etc must be just out of this world.. can’t wait to pay a visit some day

Never been to Silver Dollar City. It is a bucket list park though. I am with you. I don't like water ride that get me soaked to the point where I just crawled out of a pool. I don't mind the ones that just get you wet though.

Best theme park? Maybe. Best amusement park that requires no theming? Nobody tops the point.

Powder keg is terrifying and always breaking down. It doesn't feel safe if you ask me. Airtime in your seat is one thing but the car itself actually pulling itself off the track feels like a tragedy in the making

I enjoy this park I have only visited once but is was fun. I disagree that it is the best park in the U.S but I can see it I do prefer Cedar Point

Not seeing a line for Thunderation is definitely a newer development. I spent lots of time waiting in long lines for it in the late 2000's. (and even after Powder Keg opened)

A season pass doesn't seem like a bad idea since you moved to OK and are pretty dang close to SDC compared to a lot of other parks.
