Wow. Can't believe I found this. I played at that show with Skafish band. Filmed "URGH, A Music War" at that very show in France. Frejus Roman ruins, if memory serves. Sting sent his big bodyguards out after that guy. They pulled him into the buffer section in front of the stage and roughed him up pretty good.

I was there. Holidaying locally and got a ticket. My recollection is that, in response to the spitting, Sting jumped into the crowd and was part of the crew that (deservedly) roughed up the moron.

Dick The Birthday Boy Sting played with a pick all throughout the Police years and got a sound that cut through the mix ( like McCartney). I wonder why he changed to the hybrid classical picking method he uses now.

Actually, Sting wrote most of their songs, including all their hits. However, what sting wrote was 'policafied' (to use the words of Andy Summers). It was the combination between Sting and the other two members (Summers and Copeland), that made their songs so great.

Yes, that is true in many ways, though Sting did an incredible job at the Secret Policeman's Ball, but The Police was by far his best band. I never cared for the solo stuff much, even English Man In NY, which is a great song, but that is using a lot of ideas from his Police song The Bed's too Big without you.

I met Sting outside a restaurant in 2013 and had my photo taken with him. He was quiet and calm! I see here he is angry cos some reprobate was acting the noodle. Funny when he starts dancing mad and then tries to poke the offenders eye out with the bass!

Andy's signature atmospheric guitar tones making musical texture and Sting's awesome voice, bass playing, AND songwriting giving Stewart great material to work with and adapt helped a great lot. Stewart is amazing, but being one of the greatest bands of all time requires all of the members to be amazing in their own right.

Copeland is one of the best drummers in the world....in my opinion he plays way too ahead of the beat and doesn’t serve the song though. There is time for simplicity and time for complexity..Copeland always over doing it

I still remember not knowing too much about The Police other than a few tunes but that they were this incredibly hot popular band. Then boom,they break up. It was like their awesomeness was too much to contain and so it all ended so quickly. Fast forward 40 years and Im seeing Sting lose his shit after someone hurled a green monster at him. LOL

Sounds like a harmonizer on Sting's vocal in the choruses, Copeland's mic is to help sell it visually, he drops off the vocal mic at 2:44 with harmonizer still in the mix.

Was Sting confused, because back then, it was complimentary to spit at a "punk rock" band. I know The Police aren't considered punk-rock by most of their fans, but they were labelled that way, probably because they became famous right around the time punk rock was in full swing.
