People are overlooking that part of the staredown. Arn was on his feet but looked wary of Sting, as he should. Cody and Dustin were on the ground staring up at him not sure what to make of him. Darby was on his feet defiantly staring him in the eye and challenging him with all the confidence a young man can have. Darby was the focus of this debut as much as Sting.

@bryanmahoney3434

There was tremendous strategy when it came to the Sting debut heading to the Main Event and the ending of the Main Event itself. AEW I think understands that essentially during this pandemic the Independent Circuit is dead right now. By working this storyline with Impact I think AEW is trying to create an alliance with the other companies that are still running that aren't WWE. In the short term AEW is taking a step back to take 2 steps forward because getting some buzz on Impact creates an opportunity for wrestlers under contract to AEW that aren't being used to go and work on another show. This is a indication that AEW is trying to create a super company. They already have a relationship with NWA, AAA, OWE and now Impact. If they get ROH and NJPW or even Dragongate on Board we will see an even bigger shift in the wrestling business. Instead of outright releasing wrestlers Tony Kahn is using his resources to create other places for his bloated roster to branch out and work. We have never seen anything like this in wrestling if this is where this is going at least not in the past 30-40 years. The key is getting a committee to agree and work together for the bigger picture which is to create a healthy wrestling industry despite WWE and its bubble

@bryanmahoney3434
3 жыл бұрын
@@ShinSuperSaiyajin Well there are similarities and there are differences. The key differences is everyone in the current alliance expansion has their own world champions. The territories are the TV contracts and Impact and AEW have them in the States and AAA has one in Mexico. AEW is king because they have the biggest deal but that doesn't mean a structure can't be built in tiers by the level of which each company is operating at and be valuable and successful. What they should do once the alliance is settled is put the pool of the entire roster and then do a draft based on skill level and exposure. Everyone needs to understand that AEW is the head honcho and top tier performers should be on that show but that does not mean that their partners cant be successful by doing a draft annually. Essentially everyone under the alliance would in a way be a developmental brand for AEW but because there are different people in charge of each company different skills can be learned from different people and people will learn a lot quicker. This is a big response I know and not saying this is the endgame but clearly in Tony Kahns mind by helping Impact it gives a place for a lot of unused talent to go and get over instead of just releasing people with essentially no Independent Circuit

What does AEW stand to gain from sending stars to IMPACT? What did the WWE stand to gain from sending the Undertaker, Mankind and others to SMW/USWA in the 90's? The AEW/IMPACT relationship can benefit AEW by promoting their public image of being "different" along with the possibility of appearing as a "benevolent" big brother as opposed to a tyrannical bully one. Also, let's not forget that Don Callis is quite good at building bridges and no doubt AEW may be looking to see if he can be of help down the road. Also, as Bryan said before, AEW needs a farm system to give their younger guys a chance to hone their craft along with a place to recruit new young stars. Dark is one way to do it, but they need more. Lack of an audience is an issue, but at least having partners in IMPACT and NWA and the like means AEW have a place for new guys. Also, this may open the door for further NJPW cooperation down the road as the Japanese giant really needs someone bigger than IMPACT to help them with their plans. AEW probably wouldn't mind a more formal alliance if only to know what's going on from the inside. Cooperation between rival territories in the past always lead to breakdowns over who would go over and who got what money as each promotion felt they were equal or superior to the other. AEW knows it's the bigger dog in its inter-promotional relationships with the NWA and IMPACT much like the WWF with the smaller promotions of the 90's (USWA, ECW, SMW et al.) and these smaller promotions know in turn whose hand not to bite.

Bryan nailed it. How can you worry that AEW will misuse Sting the same way WWE misuse old talent like Goldberg?! AEW have employed (and used on TV) Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, Jake Roberts and Tazz and none of them have wrestled while doing great work as supporting characters. Billy Gunn is still able to go, but apart from the odd battle royal appearance he only wrestles to help his son Austin get established. DDP had one more match (his first since his participation in WM32's Andre the Giant Battle Royal), but it was a tag match with Dustin and QT Marshall against MJF, Butcher and Blade and they lost. And Dustin and, more importantly, Jericho are still full time wrestlers, but they can also still peform at a very high level by sheer dint of their vast experience, and in Jericho's case any doubts about making him AEW's inaugural champion were quickly quashed by him being perfect for helping the promotion establish itself and build new stars from his contenders during his 182-day reign. AEW knows how to use old legends, while WWE still thinks Goldberg needs to be Universal Champion for anyone else to be able to get a rub from beating him, no matter who he has to bury to get there first.

That was the first real crack into WWE's 20+ yrs monopoly. Sting from 96 to 98 was a much bigger star than Undertaker at any point of his career and he didn't even need to fight for over a year. The guy is just trascendental for his look alone, how many people have you seen painting his mask on their faces that are not even wrestling fans? Everybody knows who Sting is and this will help AEW's popularity MASSIVELY to become the 1st wrestling federation in America 🦂

Not only that- but they kept it quiet! We knew Sting was a free agent, fans were speculating he would go to AEW, but there was no official word until it happened. None of we knew what “Winter is Coming” really meant... we just thought it was a tag line. Masterfully done.

They could easily do the same build that TNA did with Hogan Vs Sting. Have Archer or Jericho demand to Face him and build it over a 6 month period, then next year rinse repeat! I want to see him wrestle at least once!

STING ?! Besides sell Mech, what is the 61 year old retired STING going to do ? He's got spinal stenosis and if try and make him a " manager "... They've dropped the ball w ARN TULLY JAKE ETC and it wouldn't be a good look for STING.. MAYBE some AEW MINI MOVIES ??

Mike being the usual idiot. One year of Sting being the most over guy in WCW for not wrestling, that led to a soft match with Hogan that Sting could do at any point in his career. One thing I know for certain, if he wrestles, then contrary to his sad WWE run, at least he'll win one.

this is Cody wanting a match vs his childhood hero before it’s too late & Tony Khan being a fanboy 🤷🏻♂️. and don’t get me wrong, I love that we (and the talent) have the option of AEW & watch every show, no matter how many critiques I may have of the product... I love watching Cody & I’m insanely jealous of Tony Khan’s position... but i speak the truth about why Sting just jumped up a tax bracket so to speak

See, they did this all wrong. Sting should have won the main event. Beaten the hell out of Mox & Omega. Formed a new 4 Horsemen with Tully, Arn, and Jake, and taken the belts off of the Bucks and Allin. Putting over the young people? That's insane. You'd only see that in an outlaw mudshow, not something of the quality of WWE. AEW doesn't know how to book a thing.

I agree that not every scary character needs to have EVERYBODY be scared of them... but Shida is Abadon's first real opponent... so if the very first opponent of your spooky character isn't afraid it will undermine that character from the get go.

You don't know Sting won't be given a title match. I'd like to see these manager be used better. I was excited about both Tully and Arn being managers, but they've felt very flat until Tully started working with FTR. Also, based on Bryan's comments, wouldn't Sting's use in WWE have been appropriate? He was scheduled to lose against Seth and put him over, though he definitely should have won his first match in the company.

I like watching AEW, but you or anyone else might like to watch NJPW, Impact Wrestling, WWE, ROH, AAA, etc. Why go ou out of the way to shit on wrestling promotions when you can instead enjoy the one you watch and be glad about watching it. The IWC could take a lesson to stop being so damn toxic.

The Omega win wasn't special, Renae Young (mox's wife is pregnant and he likely won't be around much) K.O had to win. They needed sting, or that show would have been a typical dynamite, the usual over booking and b.s that aew does (I know it sounds like i'm crapping on aew, but they have me watching wrestling again after not watching for over a decade)

I hope AEW does Sting better. We all wanted Sting vs Taker and instead we got Sting vs Hhh. Prior to the match I NEVER heard anyone saying they'd want to see Sting vs Hhh and then WWE made the build to be about they were the faces of each wrestling promotion going head to head. Smh🙄

The fact sting had his wrestling gear on makes me 100% confident he will wrestle. I mean hell, DDP had a 6 man tag match and he looks old and brittle AF and it was still AWESOME to see him throw a few punches and hit a few Diamond Cutters! Would not be at all surprised to see Sting in a 6 man or a tag match. Then, depending on how those go - at least one 1 on 1 match. Im sure Jericho and Cody are wanting that one match for sure.

So what’s he going to do there? He can’t wrestle since what’s his face? basically ended his career a few years back. What? Is he going to be an authority figure or manager or just a guy who hangs out in the rafters? He could be like Flair in TNA who wrestled when he was 87 but how smart would that be? Maybe he and Chris Jericho and play dueling banjos or something in a wacky comedy skit but that will be about it.

I've been watching WWE since around 97 and while I have been more out of the loop over the last couple years I still want them to thrive but they badly need a scare, in the way of AEW. I have been enjoying AEW more so then WWE for the week to week but I'm still hoping this can light a fire under WWE to be better. Having more then one option is always good.

I agree with the idea that he may have a limited number of matches. but it'll be like when DDP had a match last fall, it was in a multi person match and he was heavily protected. Essentially stays on the outside, gets a hot tag, runs wild for a couple minutes then either pins for his team or tags in the young star to get the win. It won't be a 30 minute match like Mox/Kenny had. Any 'bumps' taken would be heavily protected like what Arn has taken, which have been very limited/low impact. Sting will used to either Elevate or put over young talent, not bury them or hurt them.

Shida was a comedy skit, just to get fans interested in her character. We know she's one of the best talents in-ring, she needs to do skits outside as well, which she is now doing. The "Is this live" bit was mocking Sid Justice's promo from years ago, it worked for me, i laughed.

imagine if Omega holds the AEW, AAA and Impact championships all simultaneously. Also what was that angle they tried to shoehorn in at the very end of the show where Kingston said he wanted Archer NOW!.. and then it went off air
