Sting's original version uses some weird Hungarian alternating 4/5 rhythm. Bruce just took out the odd numbered beat to smooth it out. I think Sting actually started performing it that way on occasion as well.

In case ur wondering, Sting is clapping like that to increase the volume of each clap (not that it matters in a crowd of that size, but anyway.) Try it urself. If you clap with ur fingers spread apart and your palms flat and open like that, the decibel level of your clap is NOTICEABLY louder. It's akin to yelling Bravo! instead of just clapping. Gives it a little more oompf. Plain and simple.

One day I put Sting's songs on a CD and put in our family van. That's how my wife became a fan of him. Years later my daughter who is an young adult now told me that she raided my computer and downloaded all of my music collection. She told me of all the artist she loves and one of them is Sting. She treasures these songs as they remind her of all those good child memories when we traveled in our van and listen to and often sang-along to them. My daughter got good taste in music after all...

Your daughter will treasure the connection you share over his music for the rest of her life.

It says everything you need to hear about your career when you have Lady Gaga, Esperanza Spalding, Herbie Hancock, Bruce Springsteen and Bruno Mars come out and play your tunes for you. He may be clapping intentionally that way. That's the way they clap for example in Ethiopia, in Morocco, and in Spain (Flamenco). Probably some other countries as well. It is much louder and clearer if you hit it right. Important for the fast, intricate, and multi-layered clapping in their traditional misic. He's been studying world music so I'm sure he picked it up from somewhere.

Back in the early 1980s I was a dairy production manager at Associated Dairies in Newcastle. One morning I went across to the canteen for breakfast - probably about 7am (I didn't always have time) - the canteen was busy (long trestle tables) but there was unaccountably lots of room around three guys having their breakfast. I sat down opposite them with a smile and a "morning". I was well into my breakfast by the time I realised that one of them was Sting. It turned out he was back home and was out helping his dad who was a bottled milk buyer customer of the dairy the other chap was his brother.

Absolutely! And while Sting has already toured with the likes of Peter Gabriel, Shaggy and Paul Simon, I cannot tell you how pumped I would be for him and Bruno to tour together. That 2013 Grammy performance they gave together was outstanding and gave everyone a taste of what it would be like. I for one would be front and center!

OMG Bruno mars definitely stole the show for me!. Damn he actually sounded a bit like sting!. I was shocked. This man always sings from the heart and he is a genius musician as well. Love him.

The first time I heard Roxanne is when Eddie Murphy sung it in 48 hours. That's when I became a fan.

How to play jazz piano: play like normal with loads of mistakes in quick succession and then pretend like you were supposed to play like that all along

Sting there are not enough words. He is my ultimate favorite artist of all time. There is a connection to every lyric, and the texture of his voice is like breath itself. I could breath in his music and hope I do throughout my days!
