Create .STL, .DXF & .SVG files for External Spur, Internal Spur, and Rack Gears! Any practical tooth count, pitch or module, pressure angle, bore or face size. Get the tech, knowledge and files here..... bit.ly/3KjdfJL
Example:
53 Tooth (Yes, Evens, Odds, and Primes)
16 DP (Diametral Pitch[1/in]) or 1.5875 (Module[mm]) bit.ly/3z8IyQN
14.5° Pressure Angle (standards are 14.5, 20, 25, 30 but use whatever you want)
10.0 mm Face(the wider the tooth the stronger)
25.4mm Bore(this is a 1.00" shaft hole which is standard)
NOTE: Standards are cool, but design sometimes requires experimentation. This calculator allows any combination you can dream up! Note the gear Outside Diameter is a result of choosing the above basic paraters.

Spend some time here figuring out how big pitches are, and how the pitch or module along with tooth count will determine the diameter. I usually go back and forth to EXCEL and past all of my gear sizes into a sheet for further analysis. The "COPY" button on the calculator grabs all of the INPUT and OUTPUT, formats it so that when you "PASTE" into EXCEL all of the numbers are numbers and the text is text, and it all aligns.
This is usually where all the design occurs to get the correct ratio, and size of gear transmission.

But don't stop here. Gears have some very interesting properties. You can read about it in our media section, calculation them on our calculator hub, draw them with the output files .STL, .DXF & .SVG, make them yourself in your 3D printer.....
Gears have been a little more challenging than other geometries to draw. The Involute is a special shape that makes gears really work. As we made all these resources, we had to figure out how to get a little back - your Patreon support would be appreciated.
Please SUBSCRIBE 🔔 We have developed useful content to help the machinist community with gears and mechanisms. With our free resources centered around skills/tools/knowledge, you are now enabled to make any high quality gear you would ever need. Gears are at the heart of all interesting mechanisms.
History
The history of gears is surprisingly interesting - the process of milling and hobbing gears plus the transmission of torque and movement all find a place here. We will open the "Secret Gear Case" to YT as well through this channel - a personal mission. Read this:
