@sreetips
Жыл бұрын
Ken, unless it’s very old, most modern silver pieces will be marked “STERLING” so if you don’t see sterling then it’s a high probability that it’s silver plated. A file will and some schwerters solution (potassium dichromate dissolved in nitric) will reveal the truth. Or just simply look it over real good to see if the plating has worn off to reveal the brass under the silver plate.

Hi, Sreetips. I have a question We use roughly the same process to refine gold to almost pure but instead of silver we use a bunch of copper to lower the carat of the gold. Copper is way cheaper and seams to work just fine. It dissolves pretty good and you could reclaim it if you want to I guess, But If you leave it in solution it won’t cost you much. What are your thoughts on this and why do you use silver for this process? Does te use of silver has benefits? Super awesome video’s and I’m learning good tips for my future process! Thanks!
@sreetips

I refine silver so for me it’s best to use sterling. I’ve used copper and it works good. The advantage is less silver chloride to deal with. The disadvantage is that it takes more nitric. I remove copper in my waste treatment bucket as part of the waste treatment process.

@@sreetips it is a very useful tool, resembles a speed-o-meter used by the law enforcement, so it can be used with one hand. My silver cell slimes containers are starting to get too full. Might have to bust one out!

Great video again. Just a suggestion when melting fine powders again. We use a table spoon of methylated spirits then light it before using any flame. Helps to bind the powder by creating a crust. Greetings from South Africa 🇿🇦

Could have got it red hot in the electric furnace, then hit it with the torch.

This series has shown my favorite of the processes that you demonstrate. The recovery process is fascinating-stockpots to jeweler’s carpet. The end result never ceases to amaze me. Great work as always!
