As someone who's lived abroad for a decade (in S. Korea, China, Germany and Italy), America is soooo expensive! Just living your life here is expensive. While living abroad, my expenses for cost of living have been anywhere from 30-50% lower than in America. :/ I really hope that changes in the near future.

That depends, right? That’s a big generalization there. Demand for rural/urban living, population density, lifestyle/culture, return of investments is much different than the Europe and East Asian countries. That’ll play a big factor in taxes and centralization of resources.

We need $2,000 a month given to everyone under a certain income level I mean if you're making $50,000 a year we can debate if you get it or not but over a certain point once you're making hundreds of thousands of dollars a year $2,000 a month isn't going to be a big deal for you so I would sayjust have a program where if you do make over a certain amount and then suddenly your income drops then you can apply if you don't have millions in investments still or hundreds of thousands and investments still...
@mikeaskme3530
3 жыл бұрын
@Dalton Brennan I am sorry i cant agree with that amount, it seems 500 maybe 600 a month is sufficient, the goal is not to make people dependent, the goal is to help people do more than just survive. Five hundred or six hundred a month in some areas can pay your rent, maybe utilities, clothing allowing a person to start saving and take more risks in finding better employment, maybe open up a second business, personally i think the amounts i stated is a good amount.
@dalton6173

@@mikeaskme3530 you do understand that minimum wage has been raised since before I first got a job and I'm almost 30.... Y'all so should realize that the majority of jobs are going to be automated in the next decade.... If you don't believe me look at how automated Japan already is. We also need enough money to guarantee you have enough for rent utilities and some food and if we don't have universal basic healthcare then enough to at least cover a couple minor medical expenses if you save some of it.... In order to survive you need to at least as long as we're going to continue pretending that paying someone else for the right to live inside is not indentured servitude then enough to do that or enough to save up and get a tiny house while living with your parents while you're saving or something along those lines during your first year or so while you're receiving your basic income once you hit 18. Also if you look at studies like the majority of the countries in the world and every civilized country in the world that gave out $2,000 checks monthly during covid you'll find that people didn't become lazy slobs dependent on government subsidies no they actually started creating their own small businesses so they could take everyone else's stimulus checks which would be universal basic income checks... Yeah a lot of the jobs were specific like making masks and selling them... However if it were normal times then I'm sure a lot of people would say take a few months and write a book take some time and make some art and try to become an artist or start making stuff and selling it on Etsy... Studies also show that people have an inherent nature to want to work if you look at old people who still have some sort of job or something to do with their lives they live a lot longer than the ones who are dumped in nursing homes and just sit around all day. Maybe before commenting you need to you know act like an educated adult and do your F-ing research

@@mikeaskme3530 also the goal is guaranteed survival so you can do more and then do more with your life so you get your universal basic income check so you can work a 7:25 an hour minimum wage job or less than minimum wage waitress waiter job or busboy job or bus girl job or whatever other jobs that have loopholes such as gig economy workers where you're not technically paid even minimum wage... This way you can save that extra money and start your own small business so you can take other people's universal basic income checks..... People who are too lazy to do anything with their lives which will actually be a very small percentage of the world.... The majority of the people who will not get a job who will be collecting universal basic income or people who are disabled who actually cannot work...

It’s rotten we uphold the notion that money is in scarcity. Always, never enough money for everyone. It’s diabolical. Money is not a natural resource; money accounts for/stands in for the need we have as a collective to share all the actual natural resources we have, together. It gives us a chance to personally account for ourselves, but in a society that harshly limits access to both income AND savings for the majority (not the few, the rich, who as Tubbs said are frequently given handouts), we stand no chance to claim our share of the pie. There’s plenty to go around. We need new tools, like UBI, like more accessible housing, to make this world work with people’s innate livelihoods in mind. It doesn’t, yet.
