I love watching this video…brings back great memories of hiking there. I actually watched this video a while back, but it was cool to watch it again now that I realize your wife is Throttle! I really enjoyed her AT journey and had even asked her about Stone Mt. My husband and I used to camp at the first site by the water. The sound of the water was relaxing and we would usually stay multiple nights and just hike around during the days. Plus it was a shorter walk to the car if we wanted to grab a burger or hot dog at the country store near park entrance. Yum! The only time we encountered bears was around the far campsite up on the ridge. There used to be berries up there so probably why. I no longer live in NC so haven’t seen Stone Mt in many years. But it’s still my favorite spot and hopefully one day I can return. Thanks for sharing the hike!

Thank you so much for watching this and commenting. This was a fun day… maybe the day before or after our anniversary, can’t remember which. I love Stone Mountain and am so grateful to be so close to it. I hope you make it back up sometime soon.

Ian Frye Adventures thanks man. Glad it finally happened.... long overdue. I’ve got a feeling it’s gonna happen again with all of the bushwhack I’m planning in the next few weeks.

Nice ! Hope you are not in any open hunting areas? How long was that hike? And I was going to get up there and do the loop hike today, but got delayed at Akela's dog training until after 12noon. So I had to return home to finish house work !!

Going NoWhereFast the hike total was around 10 miles but we took a shortcut from the top of the Mtn to the campsites. No open hunting areas in that vicinity but a gamelands outside of the park. I hate you didn’t make it up for the Loop trail hike. If your schedule allows I highly recommend doing it on a weekday. It’s so much more enjoyable without the weekend crowds.

Allen Oxendine LOL that’s the way I thought we would be but we were calm. I think that it happened so fast we didn’t have time to get excited. Where did she see her bear?

Thanks so much for this informative video! Did you hike the old MST from near Devil's Garden down to campsite D? I'm curious to know if that route is doable since it looks like the state park discourages people from going that way. (I don't mind a little bushwhacking, so long as it doesn't end up in a rhododendron thicket.)

I haven't ventured into that section of the park, I need to do that next trip over there. As for bears, I've seen several over the years while hiking/backpacking but never had the camera out when I did encounter them,lol. Thanks for sharing!

Hello. We backpacked here a month or so ago and all 4 sites were taken. Last weekend when I hiked there on Sunday morning the parking lot was empty. It’s inconsistent…. Really wish they had a reservation system.

So can multiple parties book campsites or is it one party per site? We are coming from the Wilmington area and I’d hate to drive all the way out there and the 6 sites are full.
@KeeFrHikes

Harry Bryant it’s actually only 4 sites right now. It’s one party per site... we’ve had 3 tents on an outing one time. Check the Stone Mountain site to make sure primitive is open. I’ve heard that the campground is closed... not sure if there are any closures on backcountry right now. Good luck.
