Great band, a big part of the grunge era!!! RIP SCOTT WEILAND, he passed away to young at the age of 48. Scott was a great front man!!

Great front man, singer and songwriter. Musical genius. Unfortunately, he was also a trainwreck. Every passing is sad, but stories like these are becoming not so much tragic as they are head-scratching.

For reasons I'll never understand these guys got labeled as imitators of Pearl Jam and other early 90's bands. There first three records are amazing and their second is absolute perfection.

STP isn't even the same genre as Pearl Jam, so those comparisons always bothered me, too. Pearl Jam is Seattle grunge; STP is California alt. rock.

Love the song but saddened by the fact that we won't hear new music from Scott. Loved his voice but the disease of addiction took him from us too soon. He will be missed but he will never be forgotten.

So many good songs, was fortunate enough to see them in concert when Scott was alive and they definitely put on a great live show. Can do banging rock song that gets you moving like Dead and Bloated or slow down in the feels song like Sour Girl

Harri -- Thanks for sharing this STP classic, and may you rest in peace, Scott Weiland. Your voice and talent live on! Regarding the song's meaning, this is what I found online: "The lyrics were inspired, in part, by an unfortunate news story in Stone Temple Pilots' hometown of San Diego, California about a missing young woman who was later discovered dead by local law enforcement ("And I feel, when the dogs begin to smell her..."). At a concert in Columbus, Ohio on May 17, 2008, lead singer Scott Weiland said that he and STP drummer Eric Kretz wrote the lyrics in a hot tub after hearing the story. Weiland has described the song as "a metaphor for a lost obsessive relationship." Thank you, "Songfacts"

According to Weiland, he was thinking about a local murder mystery in the news at the time and a breakup of his own, and just blended images from both stories together.

God rest his soul. Scott Weiland was an amazing front man for many bands. Thank you for this. Always loved the song but never understood the meaning. Is it murder or what? Another song on the same lp, referents to death.

Great band - great voice. Weiland was 25 or 26 when the video for this song was shot. In the video he was a robust, vigorous young man. By 35 he was gaunt and sickly looking. I saw an interview shortly before his death. Hollow cheeks, missing teeth, incoherent. The reports were he was slurring his singing and forgetting lyrics. Sad sad sad.

I love STP, and I'm still a huge Scott Weiland fan. I can't explain it, but I truly feel his voice. It moves me that much. For me, only the great Layne Staley rises above Scott from that era, IMHO. And Chris Cornell by thismuch. Weiland wanted the rock star life and persona that the grunge bands largely rejected. So STP stood somewhat outside but co-existed with the Seattle scene. And your instincts about the line "the dogs begin to smell her" are correct. TLDR, it's based on a real life story of a missing woman found dead. Peace out, Harri.

I don’t think that STP is really “Grunge.” Especially if we are referring to a sound vs a movement. Maybe there first album Core, but I consider them more of traditional rock band with an alternative and pop/jazzy kind of twist.
