Since this song aired on MTV I was a forever fan of STP. Saw them live in 1996 on their second album tour. The gig started with "Press Play" as the intro (descending disco ball) and they played "Crackerman" to start with. The crowd went NUTS when the footage of stock cars racing side by side came up and the bumper camera zooms in on the other car's STP decal. You'll be greatly missed Scott, RIP.

STP isn't grunge really. Core had a grunge sound sort of, but that was just to get some radio play and exposure. They're a rock band. Now Alice in Chains my favorite band ever is grunge through and through. The guitars, lyrics everything about AIC is grunge. They have had a few songs that get away from the grunge sound on their new albums. I still love them though. I miss Layne. He was phenomenal, they way Jerry harmonized with him was perfect.

One of the most underrated alternative bands of the 90's, if not the most underrated one. I remember myself as a youngster confused and annoyed by all the shit these guys were getting from a lot of people back in the day... funny thing is that all the critics (musicians like Billy Corgan included) apologized to them years later. They all were wrong, these guys kicked ass in an era of giants.
@smilethecynic

I wouldn't by any means say that STP is or was "underrated". They were all over MTV and had regular rotations of their music videos for literally almost a decade. I think maybe what you meant is that the songs that truly deserved to be more well-known of theirs didn't get the shine they deserved, to which I agree.

One of my best friends died today. Strangely enough, this song helped me bond with him: We used to have a TV in the back of the restaurant where we worked. One day, the internet went out. He looked really mad. _"I'm gettin' pissed- there's no music."_ I sang the first part of this song after I stood next to him. _"I like that song, keep going!"_ So, I did. This song would play about once a day after that. I only really knew him for a few years, but he was still one of my best friends.
