It's disappointing that an eight minute video taught me more about lgbtq+ history and movements than I will have learnt throughout 13 years of schooling

This is the kind of American history that should be taught in schools. They need to teach about sexuality and that it's okay to be in the LGBTQ+ community. I'm 12 years old and bisexual. Although my dad is gay, I feel like I can't come out to either of my parents because my mom is homophobic. When I told her I was proud of my friend for coming out she was disgusted. The teaching of homosexuality and beyond that is so vital and it isn't being taught.

This actually was in my history textbook in high school. I remember learning about it and I remember thinking it was so cool that we were actually discussing something that had to do with the LGBT+ community. It was one of those things that definitely opened up people's minds and as we learned about it you could almost just feel the atmosphere in the classroom change and become more welcoming and open minded. And that is something you can't take for granted.

Carter White your lucky for having a school that educates people about what was going on with one of the most discriminated against group, at school the only thing I've heard about the LGBT+ community is my reading teacher saying "You only have one mom, with acceptions." me and a good friend of mine are the two most knowledgeable about the LGBT+ community in our school.

I have always heard stuff about stonewall it's been mentioned in a few Pride speeches and I always knew it was important to the LGBTQ+ community but I never understood exactly what happened but after Dublin pride on the 24th it sparked my interest and i began researching. So this video has just some how been uploaded in the middle of my quest to learn more. I'm going to bring up the lack of LGBTQ+ education in my school from the political aspects to having teachers in SPHE (social personal health education) classes talk about the stresses of coming out and also maybe LGBTQ+ sex ed (that might be a bit to far). My school is technically Protestant but is very open and accepting of the community their one problem is lack of education. So I'm going to try help solve that problem. I don't know if you will ever read this Tyler but I wanted to thank you for this series and for being you seeing people like you and Korey out and sharing your story's helped me come out so thank you.

I gave a presentation to my class on Marsha P Johnson and what she did, and I was the only education on anything relates to the LGBT+ community other than AIDS education because it's a part of our curriculum. I didn't know a lot of the stuff talked about in here. This needs to be in curriculums, not just for the LGBT+ people growing up and not learning their history, but also because there are people who think that groups haven't been oppressed and it just really sucks. It's a part of history that really needs to be taught.

Once i saw this it kind of makes sense why there was a sit-in against cops at the pride parade. You can be a cop supporting gay rights but don't come in your uniform because that was a symbol of what stonewall was fighting against. Especially people who are double or triple minorities. Thank you so much Tyler for actually getting view points from people in the actual community. For the rest of us allies of your community this was a very powerful lesson. Also Crissle west retelling of Marsha P Johnson was really good

heyo, I'm aware this comment was posted a while ago, but I just thought I'd speak up. I understand your struggle as I myself am 13 and just came out to my parents. I know it's really really scary and hard to talk to them and come out, but you can do it! If you need to, have a friend whom you're out to to come support you. Though do make sure it's a safe space to come out, I don't want you in danger. But back to your original problem, if they don't believe you, or don't accept you, or say "you're too young," don't take any of their bullshit. Call them out on it. Ask why it is you can know you're straight, but not queer? Why can you not be accepting of yourself and who you are at a young age? And if they still refuse to accept you, live your life. Carry on as you would if they did accept you. Be you. Soon enough they'll realize: you're not changing anytime soon, so they better saddle up and accept you. I wish you luck in your coming out endeavors! Lots of love ❤
