I can attest that the beach improves one’s mental health. There is just something about hearing the surf, picking up shells, and seeing the live critters that brings a sense of peace. One can actually feel problems recede. Physically it is like a big exhale and your body relaxes. I enjoy your videos all year, but during the 6 months we are north with children and grandchildren, the videos transport me back to the sense of peace the ocean brings. Next week we will visit our kids/grandkids who live in FL and for a short time once again experience the peace of the beach. The shells are an awesome bonus. Thank you for taking me on your beach walks. Bev

Bev, I agree! I grew up on the beaches of Southern California. There is no better time than time spent on the beach. The ocean waves wash away all issues, problems, and stress. It is a splendid place to be ❤

Bev, I wholeheartedly agree! I grew up on the ocean (I'm now landlocked). But, I get down to the beach/ocean as often as possible. It's amazing how the ocean/beach, and all of its beauty, has such an amazing restorative effect on the body, mind and soul - there is nothing like it 🐚 ⛱️ 😎 ❤ Have a fabulous time in FL.

Dear Sharmon, I'm so sorry that you were in pain and limping! I know that you want to make a video, but please be careful, so things won't get worse. 😘 The haul of shells was amazing! The "nutmeg gods" were very grateful that you returned the one full of barnacles, so your reward was huge. I really love that albanistic prickly cockle. And I hope that you will find that albino lettered olive soon! Thank you so much for showing us the little paradise that you call "home." What a beautiful place to live!💙 I hope and pray that your pain will go away so you can walk freely again. Have a wonderful week, sending you love and, of course, a big hug, xoxo ❤️, Ilona

I was only down and out for a few days, but I did have to cancel a shell trip last week. I was not going to be able to walk and get in and out of a boat. It was a reminder (not that I needed it) that if I can't walk, I can't make these videos. I'm so lucky that I am healthy and mobile and that I live where I do. I have so many things that need to go right and I'm one grateful gal 🙏🏼 Can I tell you I already figured I'd get a van and a motorized wheelchair? 🤣

Since I was a little girl, my weekends were always spent at the beach. Whether I was beachcombing with my dad, or just walking along the beach with my mom discussing life's problems and making decisions, the beach has always been there for me as my therapeutic buddy. Even now as a grandmother of three, sometimes I just need a little me time and I head off to spend time at the beach to gather myself in my own little world (or maybe to get away from the chaos of 7 people living at home and hearing reruns of Bluey everyday!!) LOL. Thank you for the 30 minutes of solitude your videos offer when I can't get away.

Thank you for the quote. It was something I needed to hear. This year has been a hard 1 so far. My oldest son got seriously ill with a heart condition. Surgery was scheduled, but got cancelled when 2 dentists refused to sign off for it. Had to have all his teeth removed & wait for recovery. He had his aortic arch aneurism fixed & aortic valve replaced this past Thursday & is out of ICU now. Still needs to go through 1-2 months of recovery before he can return to work. So, thank you again for the quote.

I know how the hinges, eventually get too fragile to hold together, and then what do you do, probably let them go their separate ways unless you're into rubber bands. But! That shadow box you're doing for your seahorses? How about doing another showcasing your favorite specimens of the various hinged bivalves you've picked up? Big angel wings, sunray venus, calico clams, cockles, interspersed with smaller specimens and sprinkled with tiny coquinas and rose petal tellins... It would be stunning!

If you would crush the Nacre into a powder or crumble it and use it in a craft like a sea scape decor, that is a really pretty shell to make some kind of craft with, it's close to an abalone shell with the colors. The shark eye has a heart hole in it 😊, it's meant for you to pick up and take home 😍. I made a Christmas gift with pricky cockle shells, I glued them on a shelf and I think I put a large fake pearl in them for an enhanced look, been a few years back. The shells you find are so pretty and amazingly marked with the brightest colors. Nice to meet you Terry 😂...great finds ❤

Speaking of - do you have tips for how to "unsmell" shells? I have one Crown Conch I got in the 10,000 Islands - I know it was not occupied when I picked it up but I'm guessing there is a small amount of the dead critter still in the shell. I soaked it in bleach, I had it in vinegar for a bit , nothing seems to be working.

I do have a fix for this, but it takes a long time. You have to bury the shell. I had an alphabet cone - same thing. The thing smelled BAD. I found a spot in my hard and I buried the shell and put a rock on top so I would know where it is. I checked it for months and eventually the smell went away. The bugs and bacteria ate all the left over goo and the smell finally went away. It is literally the only thing I have found that actually will remove the smell.

@@SWFBeachLife And that's the one I've seen most online. It's hard for me to do that though because I live in a motorhome and travel every month or so... Wonder if I could dig up some dirt and put it in a plastic bag for the shell to hang out in.

I am from Illinois and will be in your area this weekend and I have learned so much from your videos! I love angel wings, fighting conks, and pink Rose tellons! Where are the abalone shells? I am going to shelling for my first time ever because of your fabulous videos! So, thank you for inspiring me!

The abalone is on the West Coast in California and the Pacific Northwest. Not all beach critters like the same type of beaches 😃

Thank you for the wonderful walk on the beach. I love South West Florida, but I’m land locked in upstate SC. I look forward to our walks!

Limping around? Did you get injured? I hope you are okay. I loved my trip to Florida. Many beach walks including a 7 mile RT walk on Ft. Myers and never made it to the special place. lol. I was so hoping to find the Nutmegs. But alas, I did not. But I have started cleaning my stash. I'm so excited. Thank you Sharm for bringing us the beach every week when we can't get there. :)

I would love nothing better. Maybe between dr appts and getting stronger (hubby has been battling stage 4 cancer for almost 2 years) we can plan a beach trip. I love to shell, he loves to eat seafood. ❤

Not sure which east coast you mean, but it is indeed illegal to collect stony coral in the entire state of Florida.
