My work in hospitality, making beds up means I have to bend like this to do my job I end up with my back sore afterwards, I'm sure it's muscular because after rest ice and stretches it feels better. But any advice how I can still do my job but reduce the after effects would be gratefully received I'm 61 looking for a lighter job but there's so much ageism in UK and we are expected to work into our late 60's and the age is constantly going upward! I fail to see the “stretch.” How can you state that facilitation of the lumbar spine in an extended or neutral position can produce a stretch? Not what I expected you to SAN and no foundations in physiology or kinesiology so of course it ain’t making its way to my tool box. I know how to stretch many ways and hanging forward while maintaining neutral spine is awesome vs just flexing forward… sure trunk flexing is a problem, how about teaching neutral spine in sitting with neuro-inhibition of the lumbar paraspinals (not found in books). Works for me cause I modified what o was taught and leveled it up. Inhibition of muscle resting tone is possible if you know neuromuscular reeducation like a boss… Teaching a patient to control and manipulate their problems in real time is better than any exercise you won’t do in public or at work… There is a crap ton of options and the first problem is a coupled facilitation of the L/S paraspinals and the hamstrings for upright posture. So your shoulder teach neutral spine in sitting and standing then overlay disassociated movements of the legs and upper body. Even with pedaling on a recumbent bike. Look good at the pelvis and LE flexibility is also key even before addressing the lumbar soft tissue pathology and neuromuscular dysfunction.
