Totally. It's the proper way of breathing in general. You inflate your diaphragm. You can get your upper body to lift a bit but that should be at near the maximum point of lung capacity. You pull air down into your pelvic floor and belly. Let it fill up like the air is a liquid being poured down your airway filling from the bottom up. Belly and diaphragm expand (your solar plexus area. Basically your entire abdomen) Your ribs inflate. Then at the very tippy top you can pull more air in and that will raise your shoulders etc.

I lift heavier when I brace by filling air all over my torso, especially in my chest & the abs are hardened ofcourse. I don't feel so comfortable with locking air around my gut which makes the weight over my upper torso appear heavy. What should I do?
@tiktoktime4057

I don't think it will be comfortable at first. I've just started doing it and noticed that my back isn't straining. Although it's uncomfortable to hold, I think it will feel natural with some time
@robmarsh918

You have to get used to it. What they are describing in this video is the proper way to do the valsalva maneuver, and it’s a very basic and foundational principle you simply have to learn for lifting heavy. This is literally was belts are for: you breathe into the belly and create pressure by inflating and pressing you midsection into the belt. If you do it your way, you are not inflating nearly as much as you can, leaving you lower back vulnerable. Try this: lay on your back, feet on the ground. Put a kettlebell on your belly; you can balance it with your hands. Now do what was described in the video. The goal is to raise that kettlebell as high as it goes. Dojng this as a warm up for squats gets you used to it. Once you get used to that, practice holding that brace while exhaling and breathing a bit. The kettlebell will drop a little, but the goal is to not completely lose the brace when you have to breath during a longer set of squats.

I’ve been dealing with a herniated disc for 2 years now I want to get back to powerlifting soon bad. But I urge all of you who see this to please prevent low back injuries when lifting. Listen to squat u. Train core stability and work on your mobility restrictions daily and make sure you brace when hitting your lifts. Proper technique isn’t a cliche it’s just a fact you need to be smart. ❤️💪🏼

this is why people avoid leg day, you gotta keep hundred things in mind while doing a simple squat, so you don't make errors and spend rest of your lifetime swallowing pain killers.
@kirby7475
Жыл бұрын
Not working out our hips and legs leads to knee/hip/back injuries, too. There’s a lot to learn, but it’s worth it. I mean the same is true for benching, but people aren’t avoiding chest day. There’s also a lot to keep in mind when dealing with nutrition, but that doesn’t make nutrition any less important to get a grasp of. All that said, SquatU probably over-emphasizes all these cues and techniques a little. Just take things one at s time and it’ll become second nature after a while. Happy lifting!

How are you supposed to breathe during weighted marches it’s a core exercise correct so you should diaphragmatic breathe when you do it or even carries, but how do you stay braced The whole entire farmer carry walk without holding your breath for example? I can definitely breathe there into my stomach but once it’s there, I feel like I’m holding my breath and don’t know what to do. Any help would be amazing thanks everybody.

When athleanx caused that shotstorm a year or so ago with the whole breath out before squatting, I think this is kinda of what he was getting at. If you do a long shallow exhale it seems to move the pelvis and ribcage into a good position to brace in and as soon as the weights get heavy even if you cue breath out before the squat, you still instinctively rebreath and create the internal pressure
@pranavps851

No, he didn't imply or get at anything. When you are an instructor, you don't give out half the advice and leave out the most important part. "I taught you how to fasten the parachute. I won't teach you how to open it." Unless he is that stupid, that is.

What If I'm not using a belt???
@orange_kate
Жыл бұрын
It doesn't matter, only the breathing pattern will change. For example, without belt I'm inhaling on the way down and exhaling on the way up. With belt I inhale before the movement and begin exhaling very slowly after hitting the bottom point. But without belt I'm training in 8-12 rep range, if you're working in lower rep ranges without belt, 'belt breathing pattern' will be beneficial for you. Why is that? Because when breathing this way, we activate our core muscles, which act just like natural belt and stabilize the spine. Powerlifting belt just helps to enhance it
