I don't really get why braids encourage breakage? POC use braids as a protective style all of the time. As long as it's not super tight it's fine. It protects your ends and is a low manipulation style as once it's done you can keep it in for a few days & don't have to manipulate it again.

Something that completely changed the game for my hair is a silk turban from Slip. It's sooooo expensive, but it has been a life changing addition to my night time hair routine. I used to sleep in satin bonnets and didn't think silk was really worth it. And if satin is all you can get, definitely get it. It's better to have a satin one than nothing at all. It will still help reduce friction, breakage, and frizz. But since I've gotten the silk one, I will never go back. I sleep in it every night and I have seen dramatic benefits from it. My hair is softer, smoother, and stronger, with almost no frizz. I can't believe one product made such a huge difference, but it truly has! I also got some silk scrunchies from them and I especially love the skinny scrunchies. Super gentle, but they're a lot less bulky than regular scrunchies.

I'm not at that stage of life yet, so I can't give any great tips for you, but I definitely suffer from night sweats due to medication I take, and I've found tying my hair in a loose ponytail with a silk/satin scrunchy and then loosely plaiting the end helps keep the hair in place, thats if you have a bit longer hair or even just loosely tying it up. A satin hair band helps damage the hair less and leave less marks. Also there are cooling pads you can insert into your pillows that can help cool you down. I'm not sure where you live but they are available in the Uk so should definitely be available in the US. I'm pretty sure they even do pillows with in built in cooling gel. So maybe that's something to look into. Good luck

What is your recommendation for when your work is a workout. I don’t have a sit down desk job. I work at a Hospital. I absolutely cannot have loose hair hanging down because I can’t stand how it feels to have loose hair tickling me in my face and on my neck when I am moving around a lot bending stretching lifting reaching and constantly walking. I also cannot have long hair laying loose that people could grab or yank. I also cannot have any hair dangling out that could possibly get dipped/dragged in other peoples body fluids. It also needs to fit under PPE and not be tangled in masks and face shields when they are regularly changed. Stabby hurty pins and clips are not an option for me on 12 hour shifts. Suggestions?

A great way to remove those tiny rubber bands without breakage is to soak them in oil before putting them in your hair. It makes them slide out so easy! Or you can just use an eyebrow razor and gently press it on the band to cut it out of your hair without any risk of cutting your hair with it. Hope these tips help!

@@AngelPrimsepski it depends on the kind of bands you use. If they're true rubber bands, then they won't break. But if they're the flat kind of plastic-ish ones, then the oil will make them break. That's been my experience at least. For the flat ones I just use an eyebrow razor and cut them out.

Look up Morgan Donner’s “no elastic” video. She tied up her hair close to her head using ribbons using a historical hairstyle. She grew her hair down to her waist. I wish I could do these loose styles, but my hair is so thin and fine that nothing stays put. Ever since I was a child, if I were to use a clip in my hair I could clamp it shut and it would still slide out. I'd have to tie an elastic underneath it and close the clip over it. Even now, I can tie a relatively small hairband in my hair three or four times around. Lately, I've been trying to sleep with my hair in a loose bun using silk scrunchies, yet without fail I wake up in the morning with the scrunchie lost somewhere in the bed and my hair loose again.

I agree to a lot of this, but one point of disagreement- if your ends are loose/exposed in your hairdo, they risk breakage. Ideally, the hair shouldn’t pull around the hairline, and the ends should be tucked away. This is why I always end up looking like a servant girl from the 1840’s 😂 not really, but it certainly has an old timey feel to it.

Extremely fine hair nets have been a game changer for me. I can use all the loose styles without them falling down because the hair net keeps everything together without requiring tight bindings. I often use a hosiery elastic as you mentioned to make a very loose ponytail and then carefully pull the hair into a hairnet making sure to keep all of the strands smooth (no tangles). Once my pony is in the net I can gently loop it up over the hosiery elastic and hold it in place with a gentle clip, open pins, or even a hair chopstick (traditional hanfu style ornaments are my favorite). This works wonders. My hair has never been so happy. When all the strands are carefully protected in the invisible net they don’t suffer from tangling or activity based friction and my hair slides right out super shiny and silky smooth. Sometimes I even use a silk jumbo hair tie then carefully wrap my hair around it before covering with a hairnet to create silky waves. Those invisible hairnets are underrated! I can now create the most elegant styles without causing any kinks, stress, or binding on the strands or roots. Total blessing because I can’t stand the hair sitting on my neck, as you mentioned. 😅

I have curly hair. I wear a satin bonnet to bed. I like wearing my hair around the house in a low ponytail secured with a scrunchie I don't loop. I have a lot of hair so it works, and it won't mess up my curl pattern. It I want it up, I favor a mid ponytail secured with an Invisibobble. I find those don't cause frizz and minimize the stretched out curls that occur with a ponytail. For a messy bun, I gather my hair together and loop a scrunchie around. Curly hair is messy, so there's no need to manipulate it 😅

What if you are a gymnast. Your hair has to be tight. I have thin hair and it breaks off more than I want. But I train a lot so how should I wear my hair

Great video but I think just inserting a picture for us of an item you know you are going to return would be better than buying just for the video and returning after (the elastic hair ties).

Love this! What would you recommend to protect your hair when getting it wet like on a float trip without braiding it? Also do you recommend wrapping your hair in a tshirt at night or do you think that pulls at the scalp too much?

Have you ever tried a sleep bonnet? They protect hair without pulling

I’m glad slicked back hairstyles are in again. Those keep hair out of the face, without pulling it. I rarely use the little rubber/polybands (5:05) but I never pull them off. I cut them off without getting my hair. I believe that’s what we’re supposed to do and why we get so many in a package. Thank you for this video!

So a loose pony tail is good for our hair instead of tight

At 23 I finally had long enough hair to start doing ponytails, buns, etc. Basically styling my hair! For most of my life I've had shoulder length or bobbed hair. Super fine! I wore my slick back buns and pony's, anything I could think of! Taught myself to braid for the first time of my life. Then the breakage came! Then I grew it all out while still styling it the same way. Now Ive had to stop styling my hair because since I've moved in with my fiance, I breathe and hair breaks. I'm not sure if it's water or stress yet but I'm sure it's both. Which sucks! My hair was almost down to my butt, I cut it last year, and I'm still having these issues. I just bought those hosiery ties and Im IN LOVE so far. Keeping my fingers crossed things grow out and I don't look like a chewed on barbie doll soon 😂

I put my hair in a silk night cap which keeps the frizzies at bay and also keeps all my hair in place. Thanks for the tips! Have a great day.

I don't see the link for the workout video. I have long, straight, waist-length hair and I have a job that requires me to keep it up out of the way while I sweat like crazy. I know my hair is breaking all day long because my ponytail keeps slipping down and I have to re-do it. HELP!

Y'all something that's so good for when taking the tiny hair ties out is you should just take a pair of scissors and then (CAREFULLY) cut the tie and take it out that way! Anyways ❤️

Thanks so much for this video. Much needed. My hair is highlighted and damaged and I hate having my hair down while I sleep. I've been doing lose braids or ponies 😉 Happy Holiday's

If you use the little clear elastics or little rubber bands you can actually cut them out so you're not causing damage to your hair and it's not like you're wasting a ton of money by putting them out and not reusing them because you get like 100 of them for like a dollar and it's helping your hair a lot. People go high products that they help their hair all the time so why not do that and depending on how many rubber bands you use it would only be like a dollar every couple months or some people like me they would laugh several months maybe even a year LOL

A high, tight hair knot on the top of my head, including when I sleep--that's me. And lots of hair has been coming out every day. Last night I wore a loose, low pony to bed--today no hair came out.

Have you done a video on the hair tools that you use? My friend told me about the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer that costs almost $500 and I am not convinced that you need those to have beautiful hair. What hair styling tools do you use?

I love your videos! I did want to also mention that we wear loose braids at night to reduce friction on the pillows which can cause breakage. And it's the same thing during the day. If your hair is in a very low pony or any other style where most of your hair is going to be swinging back and forth against your shirt it causes that same friction damage that you would get from sleeping on a pillow. So I just wanted to throw that out there as well as something to keep in mind

Last night, I tried wearing my hair in a loose twist that I loosely swirled into a low bun (kind of) and secured it with a scrunchie. The scrunchie stayed in my hair, but my hair fell out of the style. 🤔

"avoid braids" School: We don't do that here. School is the only reason for my hair breakage 💀💀
