It's easy, and feels safer to view the perpetrators of cruelty as monsters but they weren't monsters, they were human beings and while its true that there must have been psychopaths who were part of this system and drawn to work in the camps, statically they are a tiny portion of society and therefore cant be scapegoated into being responsible....therefore most of the people involved were just everyday regular people ...just like you and me - now i dont know about you but i pride myself on being a good decent man and the thought that if the proverbial stars lined up in a certain way that if im honest i am probably capable of being just as monstrous and inhuman as they were. we all are, well that thought is so uncomfortable that we pretend it isnt what it really is = truth
