Holocaust survivors describe their rescuers, and rescuers recall how and why they got involved. Though most people chose not to intervene as Nazis and their collaborators persecuted and killed Jews, rescuers opted to act by hiding victims, taking in their children, and assisting with escape. A small number of people from every European country-from all religious, ethnic, and political backgrounds-risked their lives to help Jews during the Holocaust.
