Puppeteers Emily Burton, Ellen Bailey and Drew Wilson, under the direction of Sam Strong and Puppet Designer David Morton, bring the puppets to life in Storm Boy.
About the show:
In a wild and remote area of coastline on South Australia’s Coorong, Storm Boy and his reclusive father live in a secluded shack, hidden away from the harsh realities of city life. After befriending a local Ngarrindjeri man, Storm Boy discovers three orphaned pelican chicks and decides to take them in. What follows is a remarkable journey of discovery that will change his life forever.
This much-loved story has enthralled generations of Australians both on the page and on screen. Now, Colin Thiele’s heart-warming classic Storm Boy is brought to life on stage in a theatrical event filled with unforgettable characters and a collection of astonishing life-size puppets by Dead Puppet Society. With epic scope and scale, this stunning Australian story is realised in a production that evokes the fragile wilderness of Storm Boy’s world.
Adapted by Tom Holloway (Double Indemnity), this powerful new production featuring John Batchelor (Red Dog) and Tony Briggs (Cleverman) is directed by Sam Strong, who will again bring his magic to another timeless coming-of-age story, as he did with MTC’s Helpmann Award-winning Jasper Jones.
