Recent storms in Northern California dumped significant rain fall within a short period of time. This essentially washed out my busiest rail yard on my outdoor g scale layout. While this caused a portion of my layout to be out of service for a few days, I saw this as an opportunity to make an educational video on how to maintain an outdoor layout. This video is significantly different as there are no trains on this video. Even in model railroading there is much more behind the scenes work that goes on than just running trains. Any model railroader knows you have to set aside maintenance days to address track issues in order to keep your trains running. This is even more significant on an outdoor layout because your railroad is exposed to all the outside elements that any prototype railroad is exposed to. At least once a month I will set aside days to address problem areas and at least twice a year I will have to address damage from inclement weather. I also narrate during the duration of the video and talk about my step by step process to repair and get my line back in service. The goal of this video is to show viewers the process for maintaining an outdoor layout. I hope I can give some of the viewers ideas on how they can model their outdoor layouts as I know many of the viewers to my channel are fellow model railroaders. Please feel free to share other ideas in the comments as I’m sure I can learn just as much from viewers and pick up new ideas. Thanks again for your support for the channel!
