brother, Golubac got its name from the bird pigeon, it is a Serbian name, and the fortress was built by the Serbian king Dragutin. The fortress passed from hand to hand of Hungarians and Serbs, and then Serbs and Turks and then Turks and Hungarians. The fortress was rebuilt by the Serbian Despot Stefan Lazarevvić in 1398. There were no Bulgarians or Romanians there.

Yes countryside here was never that poor as in Romania, since Yugoslavia had totally different approach to socialism than countries behind Iron Curtain (USSR and its puppet states), Tito cut connection with Stalin early afer WW2 ended, people here had all the infrastructure they need and money to build big houses similar to West Europe, we had more problems with economy last 30 years after fall of Yugo than then. The thing here in Serbia is that families and even neighbors are very connected so there is always someone to help you in need, so although most of people earn something like 300-400 euros a month they will always find a way to renovate their house, have nice garden, paint the fence etc, and also bring you food and drink when u visit them.

It was never conquered. Never. Besides that canon tower in the river, there is nothing Otoman in it.
