And yet again, TUI outdid themselves. By far my most impressive experience with TUI. Onboard 10 year old G-TAWL for the second time in the space of week, and filming from exactly the same seat too, and of course, In typical Seth style I got to the airport the best part of 3 hours early, which was amplified by, again, check in being incredibly quick, and because of my hidden disabilities lanyard, we were whisked to the special assistance check in and given priority boarding! Thanks IBZ!!!
Boarding started right on time at 12:25, (and for once I wasn't last to board) and we were all strapped in and ready by 13:15. The good thing about IBZ airport, is no push back needed! Engines started and we just started taxiing out and on to the runway! Holding short, and First Officer Gavin, the same first officer as the outbound flight, then went for it. Sadly we were sat on the left hand side of the aircraft, so not the stunning island view that you and I were both hoping for. Climbing initially up to FL320, then FL360, FL380, and when we hit turbulence later on, down to FL370.
Pretty quickly the cabin crew came down the aisle with the food orders and as usual on a return trip I opted for the Ham and Cheese toastie, which was pretty good. Nice and warm, and the bread wasn't soggy or anything. Truly 'food to fly for.' And came with all the popular condiments upon request, though sadly no knife or fork to be seen???
Little to my knowledge, my mum had actually spoken to one of the Cabin Crew members about how I helped the cabin crew last year, on G-FDZX, well yet again I found myself with the rubbish job, with the lovely cabin manager trailing behind me. Thanks for the free Pilot Teddy! Shoutout once again to Captain Gavin, for the wonderful chat, and allowing me into the Cockpit when we had arrived into STN.
And then the real drama kicked off. Storm Antonie was having a real paddy about our flight path so decided to give some real REAL turbulence as we trudged towards Stansted. Look out for the part where we violently judder to one side and the seatbelt sign is immediately switched on. And it remained bumpy until our landing. Check out how close we are to the ground when we emerge from the clouds, my jaw dropped! And only moments later, a firm touchdown onto Runway 22 vacating very quickly, much to the approval of ATC I am told. And in typical bad weather fashion, a round of applause from fellow passengers. But to be fair, through discussion with the Captain, he did say the approach was rather challenging! Check out the BA Embraer we were parked up next to, that had intentionally repositioned in from LCY?
Anyway, a quick apology for the talking during landing, that was my dad, and for the....intresting.....wing view during takeoff. But thank you Martin Peel for filming once again.
