The elite women’s and men’s races on the final weekend of the 2022 UCI Road World Championships take in the climb of Mount Keira after arriving in Wollongong (from the start in Helensburgh). There’s a 34.2km loop that sends the riders up to an altitude of almost 500m before dropping back down to the coast via Mount Kembla.
On Saturday, perfect conditions greeted me in Wollongong. I parked up near the site where the world championship races will finish, near Flagstaff Hill, and kitted up to ride Mt Keira.
The ride was interrupted by roadworks, giving me the perfect excuse to back-track and climb up to the Mt Keira lookout, to overview where I'd come from and where the worlds will be...!
This is the story of my ride on Saturday 6 August 2022.
