As I said in previous comment, love that you are experiencing the truck “cold” so everything is a first impression. Perhaps when you have to return the truck, you could schedule some extra time to get your walkthrough at the end. It would really be useful to see what things (if anything) you missed. It would really highlight how intuitive the operation of the hilt is, especially for an experienced user and STO owner. The other thought would be it would be interesting would be to take the Hilt and the a (Beast?) Mode out on a trip together to compare strength/weaknesses as they navigate different sorts of terrain. You talked about audio quality in the cab. What is the audio implementation in the rear? Did they bring over the wireless speaker from the Mode? I would like to see you install/remove the KC Light covers from the front of the cab. On the Beast, you climb up to top of roof and reach over. How do you get up to the light covers on the Hilt? And how many Easter Eggs did you find? You should show the PAC-man under the induction cooktop. Are there others? When you turn it in, ask if there were any you missed.

Love your approach of learning the van on your own. I think of the Hilt as Storyteller’s “Apollo Program”. The hilt isn’t going to be sell at the same volume as the Modes. But I’m hoping some of the high tech that was created for the Hilt trickles down to the vans. Given your time in the Hilt, what technology do you think will trickle down into the vans? There were a lot of buzzwords when describing the construction of the rear living area. Heaven forbid you get hit or otherwise break the rear box. Any idea how easy that will be able to be fixed “out in the field”? Or I s this something that can only be repaired at STO HQ? Coming from the van, how useful do you find the van pass through? I don’t think I’d want to climb across the front center console to start the truck. Can you drop the rear seat in front of the pass through door from the living area? Or do you need to drop the seat from the cab before you use the door?

What I don’t care for in these rigs, is that it can be rough on other drivers, who have to share narrow tracks with these wider vehicles, and It could also add to the excuses the government uses to increasingly shut down more back country trails. But it looks really sharp.

Cities, states and federal land are closing because of people who destroy these boondocking areas, recreational and natural, by leaving tons of garbage and waste and yes by massive rigs like this that run over habitats.

But a lot of those trails started off as walking trails, then horse, then wagon, and now vehicle. Widening trails by a few more feet isnt the end of the world. Vehicles will never get bigger than paved roads so just widen trails where possible to acomodate them. Its a few feet out of thousands and not the end of the world.
@JoshuaMartian-go3tm
4 ай бұрын
@@Hatunrumioc These trails aren't well maintain city roads. This is Forest roads, BLM, National/State parks back country, middle of nowhere trails that can't be widened becuz they are either on hills, cliff edges, mountainsides, thru tree forests, alongside rivers, streams. Prone to flooding, rockslides. Widening either isn't possible for safety, cost or will affect local habitats. The reason why we love going on these trails is cuz they are remote and less traveled. Widening ruins that cuz bigger rigs, trailers, Class As, will now clog these oasis's.

I appreciate the off-road capabilities, the many nice amenities, etc. But these trucks are so unnecessarily big, which creates a ton of danger for pedestrians and cyclists. The grill is as tall as his head, and statistically that creates a MUCH higher probability of death in the event it hits someone. I wish manufacturers would keep the grill heights down to below chest level, which normally avoids death unless at high speeds. My hunch is that most viewers won't see it this way. But I live in a large city where I am able to walk or bike wherever I go, and these huge trucks are a real public safety problem. I also use my teardrop camper to get out into the mountains, and I am able to tow it with a Jeep Grand Cherokee, which IMO is about as large a vehicle driven in a city ought to be.

As long as you do your homework and avoid tight/very technical trails I bet this gets a LOT of places. Overlanding doesn't only mean jeep with a tent doing technical trails. You can go many, many miles into the backcountry or up mountains on FS roads, have tons of hiking, biking, climbing, surfing, skiing, etc adventures in this. And yeah, the whole point of it IS to be a home on wheels for extended trips.
@bindingcurve

@@bigslacker666 Problem is it just too big. Yes, it can get into the back country, but many trailheads, or any place with tight parking, that thing is going to be a nightmare. Even turning around on a fire road can get sketchy.

8 ай бұрын
@@bindingcurve Same is true for a jeep or taco with an offroad trailer though, I'd wager those have more total length and are even harder to turn around. I'd be worried more about height in forested areas than length. But in any case too big is situational, though for sure this rig takes more planning than a smaller vehicle.

@@bigslacker666 you can always disconnect a trailer. And if it is too tight you can leave it at home or a base camp. This thing is cool for places you can take it, but I have a feeling that it is more limited than most people realize. Better as a base camp then anything else.
