Hi Rutty, your story is very similar to mine. I too met my husband in Haiti while visiting my grandmother. Yes, Haitian families can be very protective of their girls. No matter how old you are. We've been married for 20 years now and you are inspiring us to follow our dreams of moving back to Haiti when our daughter graduates college. Thanks for sharing

I'm rolling how focused you were on 1992. As you know I met my husband in Haiti and he was born in 92. He was hesitant to tell me his age because he thought I would have a problem with it. If I focused on age I would've missed out on love. And lord parents...don't get me started. If I listened to my parents I would of again missed out on love. Both my parents apologized to my husband for not accepting him for me in the beginning, they love him.

Great story. One of my most adventurous relationships was with a guy I dated in haiti. We were living the life. One day in Port au Prince, the next day in Cap Haitian. We had long summer nights in Jacmel and toured the Citadel in Milo. Good times. Once we started dating in America everything changed. The stresses of life here in America does not allow you to live your best life. Anyways it was good while it lasted. Question- has Sammy ever lived in America with you before you moving to and if not, why?

Any Haitian woman who has made it to the point of marriage has jumped hell and high water to get to that point because our families literally try to sabotage it 😫😂until they realize it’s a real relationship. .. they want us to eventually get married but they despise dating. Lol.. can totally relate. Great story!

Ruth, that was not your mother’s fault ,she suffered from haitian parents syndrome. We aren’t like parents from some other places who don’t care about who their kins chose for spouse . As you very well know, when you say I do, you are committed for life, and it’s hard to travel the road of life with a bag. I am glad Samy turns out to be a good husband. Otherwise, I would personally explore your world because you are a great woman.

Aouch, your channel is bitter sweet. I'm a Gonaives/Gros-Morne girl and miss everything so much. I also lived a year in Cap-Haitian. Your family was right to be scared. When teens, young adults leave to go to Port-au-Prince, they have good intentions to study and make something of themselves. But sometimes things get hard, they can't make it on their own and they get recruited in gangs as a survival route.
