Straight ankle lock | Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu -
Jeremy Skinner is a brown belt Brazilian Jiu-jitsu practitioner under Lachlan Giles and Craig Jones and competing out of Absolute Mixed Martial Arts, St Kilda.
In this video we look at setting up and finishing the straight ankle lock and how different leg entanglements assist in every stage of our straight ankle lock.
With series to leg entanglements we can overcome a variety of problems our opponent can give when looking to attack a straight ankle lock.
Starting with our initial control we want to connect to our opponent with a standard ashi garami and from there we build up.
Next we look to use a false hook ashi which will allow us to improve our grip for our straight ankle lock finish.
Lastly employing a butterfly ashi to strength our main finishing motion and letting us play off a strong inside leg.
The straight ankle lock is a leg lock submission that is legal for white belts and black belts, whether it’s Gi or NoGi. With this sequence we won’t risk getting disqualified for reaping but STILL have an effective leg lock.
