Hello, thank you for explaining so well :) But I have a question. When you do a triangle shaped start, what do you do with the extra two strings on the sides? How should I deal with them when starting?? I hope you see my comment🥰

Hi. thank you for this video. I am trying to use this technique but I am having trouble starting it? How do I start the bracelet having 2 extra strings? :)

Hi, I’m not sure what you mean? You cut 2 extra strings when you’re cutting the string for your bracelet and start your bracelet however you normally would. I guess one thing I should have mentioned is that if you’re following an existing pattern, you’d add the extra knot at the edges on the second row of the pattern and every other row from there, so row 2, 4, 6, 8, etc. Let me know if that answered your question or not? Also if you’re following one of my patterns then it most likely already has straight edges built in, so you don’t need to add anything, just follow the pattern... although when you build a pattern in BraceletBook it makes you start the pattern with the row with the most knots, so it would have the straight edges knots on rows 1, 3, 5, 7 etc. I hope that’s not too confusing 🙈

Hi! Love this tutorial, but I have found myself in a pickle. I'm trying to make pattern #34499 on Bracelet Book, and some of the knots on the edge are just forward or just backward knots, and it's easy enough to do the knots on the border strings because it doesn't mess up the string order, but on other rows, the edge knots are FB or BF knots. I cannot seem to figure out how to account for doing the knot on the border strings when it calls for the last knot in the pattern row to be a BF/FB knot because then the order of the strings gets messed up! I hope that makes sense! I've been making bracelets for 10 years and can make advanced designs, but I literally just now learned how to read patterns, and adding that extra string in is throwing me for a loop when it's not actually in the pattern!

Sam Beverati hi! I took a look at that pattern and it should be fine. Add a backward forward knot on the left and a forward backward knot in the right on all the even rows of the pattern (2, 4, 6, etc). Anywhere you see on the pattern wheee the thread sticks out at the sides that’s the one you use to tie onto the side strings. Sorry I should have gone a bit more in depth about adjusting the pattern. Masha Knots has a great tutorial video on straight edges that might help.

@@patternandcraft Thank you! I'll give that a whirl! I also recently learned that I ties the knots upside down, in that when I make bracelets, you see the "ugly" side, and then I flip them over when I'm done, so I've just been going about this whole thing strangely for 10 years 😂

How can I add an extra string into the pattern on bracelet book?
@titspod1022

Rana Mamosh You don’t have to even put it in the pattern, just add the strings at the two sides of the bracelet and there you can start it

Hello. Thanks for the informative video. On bracelet book, how did you add the 2 extra strings? When I add 2, it adds then to the same side of the bracelet.

lmiller0911 which one? The navy & white one has the pattern number and pattern provided at the start- do you mean that one? Or do you mean the black & white & coral offset chevron?

Yes, the offset chevron

not sure if you know the answer to this but if i wanted to use the straight edge technique and do a tear drop loop, where would i put the extra string so it wouldn’t show?
@patternandcraft

Winter Rohrbah you include it in your loop

Yeah the first string you would bring to the left and right side of teardrop loop would be the straight edge string.

In another comment you mentioned that this technique makes an extra knot at the edges. This is confusing because I thought the original pattern was supposed to remain the same, not become 1 knot wider. I have no experience making straight edges. Somebody online said that you should knot over the thread in the pattern, AND the edge string. Have you ever heard of or done it like this? Im about to make a bracelet like this and ill let you know if i remember bc this is confusig to me.

It does add an extra knot but it doesn’t change the main pattern the video shows how to do it, Masha Knots also has good videos on this technique. It makes sense once you try it you will see that it works. I haven’t heard of knitting over 2 strings though.

Why do we need to add extra string? Can we not change the knots of the actual pattern without adding string?
@patternandcraft
4 жыл бұрын
Pariksha10 I’ve seen patterns once in a while where you can just change the knots and turn it into backward forward knots on the left and forward backward knots on the right without it altering the pattern, but usually it will mess up most patterns so the extra string is necessary.

How did you make the faded Rainbow chevron? Did u use a color changing string for each color (from example light green to dark green). Or was ist at first one color per string and then one side was bleached through the sun or something like that?

Gwendolyn 123 it was color changing string yes I lined up all the light and dark before starting the bracelet- I talk about it more in my bracelet collection video 🙂

Amber Starriray you can add straight edges to any pattern, however there are a few cases where it doesn’t look good. I’ve seen some patterns where maybe there’s a solid background but if you add the extra string it means a hidden color will show up with the extra knot. Hard to explain but you can see what color the extra knots will be on the pattern by looking at the sides.
