My dad once had a "close friend" who never even knew I existed. TEN yrs into the "close friendship" my dad casually mentioned my existence. His friend was like, "Yo, you got a kid? Oh, man, I didn't even know! What's his name? Or is it a girl?" This commercial was spot on.

Literally same. As in I knew a guy for 6 years when he casually mentioned he was going to visit his kid the next week. me: "What?? you have a kid?" The kid was like 12 and lived in a different state though so I guess it made a little sense, but still very surprising. Another really close friend once mentioned something about his 'real last name'.... which apparently wasn't the last name that everyone knew him by.

My late elderly dad had a gay male friend and it was adorable. They actually met in the army in 1940s and my dad found out that the dude was gay and wouldn't out him to his superiors, because he felt that since his buddy volunteered, he deserved to be there. Dad later set him up with my mom's cousin and they stayed together for over 40 years, until dad's pal died.

This is awesome and so spot on. Like someone else in the comments I saw on here. I was in the Army during Iraq OIF and I also had a gay friend. Some knew but nobody ever outed him. He did everything we did and was an awesome person. Also, who truly cares if someone is gay. He knew we were straight and never tried anything. Poor guy would even shower after us until we said don’t worry about it man. Again, it’s not like he tried to come on to us. Later on I had him and 2 other gay friends as my best men at my wedding. Being gay is just a sexual preference and doesn’t change who you are as a person.

I totally get this. Actually this was a surprising truth bomb after all these years. There are romantic partners, then there are completely platonic bros. The difficulty comes with misunderstandings of people like a commenter on this thread (forgot name... Wesley?) Who think just because you're bi there is a romantic component or potential for it. And also when they are in a relationship, their GF/wife's insecurities or jealousy for said potential, when truly, you and your friend don't feel that. On the inside it feels *exactly* what Bowen and Straight Male Friend portray. (and the tedium or uncomfortable nature of bunch with the girls rings true as well)✌️ Love this sketch!
