Great discussion, there’s no right or wrong choices, just different opinions. If asked for my opinion I would recommend picking what ever appeals to you the most, either way you will have some benefits and some challenges. There is a price to pay for learning to shave with an open blade, some part of that will be paid in cash, and some part will be paid in blood. Thanks for the excellent video.

Great video and breakdown of the straight razor and shavette differences, Matti! This should be part of your beginner video series as some users may prefer to start with a shavette. Since I just started straight razor shaving, I'm going to go with straight s over shavettes! 👊😁🤟

Thank you so much James. 👍👍 Great to hear that you starting with straights. Just keep on shaving and it will gett better and better. Yeah straight or shavette is a difficult choice if you are a beginner. But i think it doesn’t matter what you chooses. Just start to use a open blade and learn the technique. Have a great day and take care. 🤘😃🤘

have to say i am i’m full agreement there i like shavettes and do get great shaves . not keen on the half a de ones myself very easy for me to get a nick but still very good shavers but my love is for straights the history and honing an edge to one then being able to get a good shave is magnificent 👍

Great video Matti, that was really interesting 😌👏 In terms of the history or aesthetics (or as you said, soul) of the razors, I think it would be almost impossible to argue in favour of shavettes, even the vintage Wecks will never look as good as a beautiful straight, and although that razor clearly has a history, you’re always using a new blade that hasn’t been lovingly maintained. Like you I think the great thing about shavettes is their convenience, (e.g.no stropping required) and almost zero maintenance. Of course that convenience comes at a cost which as you said is the sharpness of that blade, and the amount of practice it takes (with a shavette rather a straight) to handle it with the required precision and touch so that you get the level of comfort (and safety) you want from a shave. I think there are now an increasing number of people who have achieved a high level of “touch” with shavettes so both are here to stay. I might be unusual in this regard, but I don’t really have a preference between the two as long as we are talking a high quality shavette such as a Feather or IBC or the Weck, and I wouldn’t want to just be able to use one or the other. Have a great evening my friend. 😌👍

Thank you so much Dave. 👍👍 Yeah you are absolutely right what you say. There is something about straight that is difficult to explain but it doesn’t mean it’s the only way to go. In the long run i think people gone stick to and use shavettes more in the future becouse it’s more conveniwnce to use as you say. It’s just we sentimental old guys that’s gone use straights. 😂😂 Have a absolutely awesome day my friend and take care. You rock bro. By the way. I think this is the longest comment I have received. 😂😂 🤘😃🤘
