Most people would consider this to be about as interesting as watching paint dry, but since I use my phone to magnify my hairspring straightening anyway, I thought I'd post the process. Here I'm using the same microscope I show in my last video. The whole process of straightening the spring took over 16 minutes. I've edited out the pauses where I'm thinking about my next move.
I use a Dumont #7 tweezers in my left hand. The tool in my right hand is essentially a tapered pin with a slight bend at the tip, set in a handle.
This is just a study in putting a hairspring back in round. Putting one back in flat would be much more difficult to demonstrate on video. Perhaps someday I'll make an instructional video on this using a pocket watch size hairspring.
