The Prog 6 I just reviewed was really bad on the fretwork, to the point I actually just sent it back to Musicians Friend for a full refund (I usually keep the guitars for a bit and them sell em'). Otherwise the guitar was great, but that's the second Indo Strandy I've played with this problem, def VERY concerning. I'd only buy one now if I can return it if it's not right. A MINOR ERROR I’ve got the Prog 7 and Original 8, both awesome. Looking forward to trying a classic and a neck through at some point. Really digging the Fishman setup in the Prog. It’s visceral for shredding and heavy riffage but recently tried the new Neural Cory Wong and the neck position passive on coil split sounds epic on funky cleans. That really surprised me, I knew these are versatile but it’s the first time when I truly experienced just how much.

A MINOR ERROR on the topic of the neck itself though, I completely agree with all your points. I would say that this is the only 8 I would play, the neck, size, weight and comfort just makes it leagues ahead any other guitar at the moment. It’s crazy that an 8 can be as light and compact as this 🤯 I also struggle with ergonomics, and the comfort of Strandbergs is just mind blowing. I can practice for hours in any position and don’t have to worry too much about strain or fatigue.

The EndurNeck with the very flat 20" radius is super comfortable. I was a bit worried of how I would adapt to it before actually playing it. Thankfully it feels pretty natural to me. I own many different brands of guitars, always looking for "The One" like most of us do. Other necks I enjoy are the Keisel Vader, Ibanez Jem pre-wizard neck, The slim necks of my Gibson Explorer and Prs Custom 24 are really playable and comfortable. I have a few Duesenberg's which have a slightly fatter D-shape and they took a bit to get used to and finally my compound Radius strat is not to bad. Strandberg has become my number make of guitar. I love the Headless design, Ola did it right!

Do you know anyone with a classical background that is using these guitars? What are their thoughts on the neck? Did they find it awkward?

Hi Diogo, thanks for watching and commenting. Unfortunately I don't know any classical guitarists who've made the switch to a strandberg, being as one is an acoustic instrument to an electric guitar with a specific brand like strandberg, there's not many players out there that fit that specific change. My guess is you'll like it because classical players normally focus on great posture and technique, so you might find it to be very comfortable. The endure neck works best when you use good thumb positioning on the back of the neck. Hope that helps, best of luck!

Hi, I know this is an older video, but I have a quick question for you :). I live in rural Wisconsin, so I don't really have the opportunity to try a Standberg before buying one, so I'll just have to take the plunge lol. Would you say that it would be easier to start on a 6 string with the Endurneck or just jump right to the 7 string? I am new to 7 string, just having started playing them a little over a month ago, but I find my 7 string Kiesel headless to be hard on the wrist. I'm thinking its due to my 6 string technique not transferring well to the thicker 7 string neck. Do you think the Endureneck will help correct that technique a bit? What are your experiences along those lines? Thanks in advance!!
@aminorerror

Hi Matt, thanks for watching, commenting and giving the channel a sub. I really appreciate your time and support! First, if you buy a Strandberg brand new either from Strandy direct or something like Sweetwater or musicians friend they all have return policies if you don't like it. Thumb placement is key for good fretting technique and try to play in a relaxed manner with as little tension in your hand. I find this is the biggest thing that many of my students need to work on to help them take their playing to the next level. The endure neck is designed to help with thumb placement and if you work on keeping your thumb on the edge of the endure neck it might really help train you out of your old habits but it's impossible to say for sure without being able to see you play and give you more insight. IMO, I love the endure neck for more than what I said above, it also really helps with bending as the flat sections of the neck give you superior leverage over the strings and def puts far less pressure on your wrist than a traditional neck. I also find that the endure neck works better the more strings on the guitar, especially on my 7 or 8 string berg's. Hope that helps, and just to throw it out there I do teach zoom lessons if you're ever looking for some extra one on one help with your playing. Feel free to shoot me an email to aminorerrorrocks@gmail.com Good luck!

@@aminorerror Hi Rob, thank you for the detailed response! I have been working on my thumb placement, since began to playing 7 string. I think my thumb placement has been a bit incorrect for a long time, and 7 string has just shone a light on it, so to speak. I think I may take you up on those zoom lessons in the future :). I'm currently really torn between getting an Aristides headless or Strandberg for my next guitar. I'm selling off my other gear (PRS, Music Man) to get into ergonomic guitars. I have one other quick question for you, are the 7 string trems on strandbergs much stiffer than on their 6 strings? I'm wondering if I should stick to 6 strings for trem guitars, if the additional string on the 7 is going to cause the trem to require a lot more force to manipulate.
@aminorerror
2 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear you've been working on changing your thumb placement, figuring out and making the changes to technique can really be frustrating and time consuming! Another piece of advice that's helped me recently is to try and play as light as possible. Don't press any harder than you need to in order to get a note to sound clearly and in tune, I've def found anytime I'm really trying to play something challenging I start pressing harder and harder lol The tremolo's on a 6 vs 7 string 'berg feel exactly the same, although I've found that stiffness can vary from model to model but doesn't seem to have anything to do with it being a 6 vs a 7 string thing, more a mass produced guitar thing. Best of luck Matt, keep on rocking!

After buying a Boden Prog 7 last year, I haven't looked back. Other guitars just don't feel right to me anymore. You're absolutely right about the Boden 8. I've heard some issues about the thumb when you play bends, because of the sharp edges. What do you think about that?
@aminorerror
2 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for watching and commenting! In my experience, whoever said that was using the endure neck wrong lol. It's design is to use the flat sections to help keep your wrist straight, not place your thumb right on the edge. Also, the edges of the neck aren't 'sharp', they're rounded and finished in a way that's very comfortable. Bending is specifically the area IMO there's some of the largest benefits of the endure neck profile. By placing your hand on the bottom side of the flat section it gives you the greatest amount of leverage over the string which is probably why older guitars (like a Les Paul 50's profile) were as thick as they were. Placing your thumb directly on the edge defeats the whole purpose and design of the neck. The neck is designed primarily for your thumb to follow the edge as a guide and help keep your wrist straighter. It also makes the neck feel thick for stuff like bending with great leverage over the strings but then feel thin and great for all the shreddy stuff, and I think it pulls of this trick better than any other neck profile out there. BUT....it's def not for everybody. If you're the kind of player that likes to bring your thumb over and fret notes ala Hendrix it might not be the best for you and ultimately it's probably best to only buy one if you can return it so you can have a little bit of time with it. I think you'll love it once you get how to use it!

@aminorerror

Thanks for watching and commenting! I'm not sure what you mean by intonation and fret temperament, as strandberg offers two models of frets: normal fanned frets and equal temperament fanned frets. The fan on all Strandberg guitars isn't as extreme as other brands so getting used to the multi scale aspect doesn't take long. The temperament or tuning across the scale length is the same as it would be on a normal straight fret instrument: it'll be a little out of tune on certain intervals. Unfortunately I don't have any experience (yet) with the strandberg true temperament system, I don't know how easy to hard it is to play on it. Hey man thanks for your video! I actually always played ibanez guitars mainly cause of the wizard necks. I play predominantly 7 strings and I had one of the ibanez fanned fret models. I decided to try strandberg because they are the only company that has a trem for fanned fret guitars. I was kinda iffy about the endurneck but when I played it it actually feels thinner and more practical than any conventional guitar neck. I feel the thickness of the neck is negligible because of the angular nature of the neck. So perhaps people who are going from thin necks would find it easier to adapt to a strandberg neck. Can't say the same for people who are going from a thicker neck to a strandberg though cause that to me would seem like more of a massive jump. But nonetheless what a great job strandberg has done. I can't play anything else now. I sold all my ibanez's and used the money for my j custom purchase to get strandberg's. Third one is on the way now 😂👍

When it comes to day to day teaching/practicing/gigging its all Strandy all the time!
