Tried an endurneck before with a Strandberg Salen and for me it's really a game changer. Now I'm selling my PRS SE Custom 24 30th anniversary to add more funds for buying a Strandberg. I swear, I'm gonna own a Strandberg Plini sooner or later!

It really is like nothing else on the market. I’m a fan of PRS and even their SE line is absolutely killer, but there’s something special about Strandbergs. I’m also a big fan of the Plini model. The new neck thru version is really calling my name.

Funny you mention that, I was a "super thin ibby wizard" kind of guy for many many years. But I got an os6 last year and the endurneck was a total game changer for me.. It took me a just few minutes to get use to, then I play for hours... HOURS.. and that's what really blew my mind : The fact I can play this guitar as long as I want without getting any pain or any fatigue. I'm still not totally in love with the "dryer" sound of theses guitars, but the comfort on theses is unmatched.

I am right there with you. I loved the Ibanez necks for awhile and it made me think that the best necks for me were thin. But in the last two years or so my hands started to cramp after awhile of playing especially when playing a lot of chords. But I haven’t had that issue with the Endurneck at all. The thicker middle plane really helps reduce the pressure you use which definitely makes a difference for endurance.

The neck isn't for me but it's refreshing to see new things tried in the guitar industry!

As much as i love their designs, unfortunately, endurneck is not for me... or maybe should i give it another chance?

It’s definitely not for everyone but it’s worth giving it a bit of playing time to see if you just need to adjust or if it’s just not right for you. I also don’t try to think about it and just let my hands play on it like a regular neck.

IMHO...THE ENDURNECK...CORRECTS IMPROPER L-HAND POSITIONING... I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS NECK TO ANYONE LEARNING HOW TO PLAY... IT'S SOMETHING OF A TEACHING TOOL.

So Ive spent several hours playing the Salen Jazz NX6, and it breaks my heart to say it, but I really dont like the neck. Ive been playing for more than 50 years and have a stable of standard rock and jazz guitars, and this is the only one that "demands" I place my thumb in a certain area. I have large hands and find myself at times with my thumb on the bump between the middle and the top flat areas. Which is quite uncomfortable. Although I love its look and sound, I have to listen to my guts (and my thumb) and they say its not the guitar for me. So back it goes. 🙁

How does it compare to an Ibanez AZ neck?

Anything specific about the neck profiles you are curious about? They are such different necks for obvious differences. Neither is worse or better just different. I used to be a fan of thinner necks but the AZ neck feels very comfortable even though it’s much thicker and rounded than Ibanez’s wizard necks. The Endurneck is obviously designed for ergonomics and feels amazing for most, but some people might not prefer it over a standard neck. The AZ is only slightly thinner than the middle plane of the Endurneck so they are in a similar thickness range. The Endurneck does have some benefits with the other two planes. For a 7 or 8 string I would go with the Endurneck, but for a 6 it’s honestly down to preference. You’ll have to try to play both to figure out which you prefer, or just get both!

@@guitarguild7336 I've been playing wizard necks for over 10 years and want to try something else. Really tough to find either and try them where I live. My gut is telling me I would find an AZ more comfortable as I am only looking at 6 string models. Thanks for the long answer 😊

You’ll probably find either quick to get used to. I’d say go for the AZ if you just want something slightly different but still very versatile. If you want to get something very different than anything else you might own, then go with the Strandberg. The ergonomic feel of the neck and the multiscale fretboard will make it feel much different than anything you might currently have. The Endurneck definitely makes more of a difference with 7 and 8 strings but the ergonomics still transfer over. If you were to order one to try out first, I’d suggest the Strandberg. You’ll know pretty quickly if you connect with it after a few days of playing.

It taught me to keep my thumb behind the neck which is proper for reducing injury in my experience. John Mayer screwed us all back in the day popularizing the thumb over the neck lol

That’s good to hear. It definitely will help with being able to play for many years to come. I’ve never been too big of the thumb over technique since most of the stuff I play would feel awkward in that position. It has a time and place for some use cases but it shouldn’t be the default technique.
