Strange Places - UFO Watchtower on the Cosmic Highway at Hooper Colorado a Day Trip
Cruising through the wide open spaces of Colorado, more specifically the San Luis Valley. A massive desert that is flanked by the Sangre De Christo Mountain Range and the Great Sand Dunes National Park to the East and the San Juan Mountains on the West. The wide open valley is certainly enough steal your imagination. But that's not why Judy Messoline built her homage to avid sky watchers. The San Luis Valley is home to the most reported UFO sightings in the US. That's right, move over Roswell... After years of cattle ranchers reporting strange sightings and cattle mutilations, and a having a go at ranching herself, Judy decided, after selling her stock in the late 90's, to build the UFO Watchtower. Giving those who flock to the valley in hopes of catching glimpse of an unidentified flying object, a chance to rise up from the desert floor for a slightly better view. Having been featured on various media outlets, inspiring authors to pen books and even a Blair Witch style documentary, the UFO Watchtower leaves us a lot to ponder... IS there anything out there?
For those of you who cannot go camp and visit the tower for yourself, we give you a brief look at what you can find. It is unique. It is growing. And to say the least, it is interesting....
While our cameras aren't good enough to even offer the slightest look at the night sky, I assure you, on clear nights there is plenty to see and question. Far beyond the breathtaking glory of seeing the milky way with your own eyes.
Ms. Judy is a treasure as well. Full of interesting and wonderful stories, a conversation with her while visiting Hooper, Colorado is worth the trip alone. Inspiring guests to leave a trinket (or trash?) in her Garden of offerings for the beings who may or may not visit this out of this world pit stop.
