Shaun and Wildman your lifelong friendship makes you guys an ideal team to get the message out. I don't have a criminal record. I live in Arizona. Your experience has already taught me so much. I'm able to live vicariously through you. Now that you both have taught me just how bad the Arizona prison system is, let's just say the line I walk is a little straighter. Thank you again for helping me be a better person.

We found a croc skull hanging in a tree at the mouth of The Finniss river NT Oz . . back in day (that I kept for many yrs although illegal without a permit) that would have come from a 5.5m plus individual (it had a bullet hole between the eyes so was from olden croc shooting days) that river . . Finniss was where Oz's largest crocodile was caught . . one 'Sweetheart' some 6m's plus. . who had taken to attacking boats & was declared a pest (its stuffed & on show in Darwin museum now) , we fished (netted) the waters where Sweetheart was caught (Sweethearts lookout ) which is about 20 kms from the mouth & which is a seriously creepy bit of water . . black & deep water , some 'funny' tales about that section of water

I’m an old man now, but my memories are still vivid. I first entered Strangeways as a young Borstal Boy in 1970. Those days REALLY were BRUTAL! Hunger, beatings, officers dressed in black like old SS guards … In permanent semi-darkness, grey, cold; the place resembled a medieval dungeon. Years later as a long term prisoner passing through, they knew what was coming and started transferring long-term and Cat ‘A’ prisoners out weeks before the riot. I was one of them. My biggest regret in life was not being able to join in the riot and spend 25 days taking that place apart brick by brick, which might have reduced the nightmares and flashbacks I still experience to this day. Later in life I went abroad and became a professional. Well done Alan, I wish I could have been with you. O well done! I commend all your pains, And those yet to come shall share i' the gains; And now about thy memories tell, Of things once unseen in a man-made hell; If walls too had voices they would scream in despair, As they tell their grim tales and bid thee beware; Of times distant past though the nightmares remain, Of something so wicked that this way once came. As memories fade and passing time numbs, The sound of the boots like the beating of drums; Of whistles and bells, the hunger and pain, While alone in the gloom a child’s tears fell like rain; As the evil destroyed though three decades past, Deep inside an old man the little boy laughs; May their wickedness visited on children bring shame, A reminder so wicked that this way once came.

When I was a kid, we used to play 'Strangeways'. We basically took a load of stones, broken asbestos, cans, bottles etc. on top of the garage roofs and we'd pick teams of who would be pigs or prisoners. The pigs had to try to make it on top of the garages and arrest us prisoners whilst we pelted them with stones. It was brilliant growing up on a council estate 😁

Interesting stuff, this whole riot was before my time as I'm only 27. However, I was watching a documentary filmed in the mid 80's following a few cons around strangeways and a number of them actually predicted a riot of that scale was inevitable given the conditions inside at that time and the animosity between the screws and the prisoners.
