This was excellent. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Will perform for nearly 2 decades. Thank you for honoring him in this way. He’s a Key West legend.

@@ScottGerke You did a great job with this. I have a small KZitem channel and I had planned to reach out to Will for a short vlog next month. But, I can’t compete with how good yours is so I will just recommend and share yours to any and all. Will Soto is a legend and this along with his book are really nice memorials to his many accomplishments and devotion to Mallory Square and KW. My channel is Jimmy Buffett based - you can find it by searching Top 10 Key West Jimmy Buffett (it’s All The Stories I can tell). Take care Scott!

@@davidkos74 go for it, David! What would be a cool video is to have a chat with each performer and play some broll over their conversation. That was one of my ideas, but went with Will since he has so much history there. They all have a great story to tell and would prob be happy to chat.

Street performance is so interactive- the best bits can't be caught on video. They're ephemeral. So I had a big smile crossed my face at the end, when I saw 'Will's Hill ' remembered on a sturdy , brass plaque. And I loved watching Will, wearing some of his many hats. Hope you hear me cheering from Boston!

Very nice video. I've been watching Will evere since 1979 (I think it was 1979; at my age, I'm not so sure) but I am sure that I've always loved his act. Key West is a town full of colorful characters and Will is one of the most colorful. Cheers.

Ah, so you could relate to a few of the older pictures I added in the video! And yes, VERY colorful guy. Will was a lot of fun to film.

Nice video and beautiful capture of the essence of Key West and Sunset Celebration. As a Sunset Celebration participant ( henna artist) I love how you showed the art of street performing . Will is such an pleasant, sunshiney soul and this video made me smile 😊

@@jennifermontgomery814 ohhhh yea. I really wanted to dive deep into the emotional aspect of the job, but just didn't have the material to showcase it properly. Geez, and the thickest of thick skin is needed cause sometimes those hecklers are on full force and just waiting for you to mess up!

@@ScottGerke agreed on the emotional aspect which is often overlooked and/or not considered . While I’m not a street performer per se but an artist that creates on site ( body art) , I understand what Will explains about energy being in the proper place . I don’t have the heckler element involved like the performers do. I admire their backbone as some folks are brutal.

Fantastic job capturing his personality and the act itself. I try to help him on set up when I go down for vacation and he's always eager to talk and give some advice. Will is almost always on the left corner harbor-side, next to the Key West Aquarium, usually an hour before Sunset on Sundays. The magician is seasonal, as he tours Europe as well, but he is usually next to Will and does his act a pinch earlier. The gentleman on the unicycle at 0:45 is typically at the back in front of 7th Wave, Josh was his name I believe. The older black athlete was on America's Got Talent and is typically near the right edge of the Square next to the parking lot. One last recommendation is in front of Bistro 245, the Cat Man Dominique, just bring ear plugs so you can't hear his manic cackling I'll likely be at Mallory this Sunday if Will's scheduled to perform, if you're around I'll drop by and say hello

Thank you so much! Things are a little bit different now. The Cat Man is no longer performing, but does walk around the celebration. He's always happy to stop and have a chat! I may just be there on Sunday as it's pretty much become my second home, ha.
