Comparing butters and oils to spandex was a great analogy. I’m so glad more of us are getting to meet our actual hair! I relate your goals as well. Mine was BSL when I got my curly cut but I never enjoyed it! I enjoy my shorter hair now

The best piece of advice I got from this trend is to use professional products. What I thought was high porosity hair was actually the result of low quality, high ph shampoos keeping my cuticles raised and hair tangled. Once I switched to a better shampoo and conditioner my hair changed completely. I lost interest in all other products; “the holy grail search” was over.

Great video. Very thorough and you hair looks great. My best take away after doing the challenge and then having continued their simple routine now for over a year and a half is the knowledge I gained. The ability in knowing when a product is going to work, or will be a good product. So when my money does come out of my pocket, it's worth it, there is no ‘trying’ either it will work or it won't, no more need for me to be on the struggle bus. Plus I can also tell now when someone knows what they are talking about, versus having no clue, certain sentences and statements just jump out at me now and it's easier for me to make decisions about who to follow etc. So my biggest takeaway is the knowledge gained. When you know better you do better.

Honestly I just started using products marketed to white people. Their products aren't loaded down with butters and oils thus aren't heavy. You do have to watch out for the drying alcohols though in their products. I couldn't wait for the black companies to come around. A good number of naturals actually have fine strands and most black product lines are not for fine strands they are way too heavy. My hair and scalp can finally breathe!

I have found products not specific targeted to African Americans rarely change their ingredients, formulations, or prices. I am about supporting Black owned, however I am also about buying products that work. It is very frustrating that black owned products continue the practice of changing ingredients, formulations, and price increase once it becomes popular. It does not promote good business sense or loyal customers.
@Untwisted_hair

Agree. I think part of the reason natural companies change formulations so often is because it is hard to source natural ingredients. It is frustrating when they switch up a tried and true.

@@pamelathompson7850 Agreed. You know what I have noticed throughout the years though. If a white product gains big popularity amongst black women then the formula is suddenly changed (so that it no longer works on our hair) or it's discontinued after many decades on the market. I've seen it happen time and time again. I'm using Kerastase now which I rarely see any black people use so I don't think it'll be changing or disappearing anytime soon and it works very well for me. Like you though, I'd rather support black businesses. I just need one that caters specifically to fine but high density hair types.

@@Untwisted_hair You're right, I do belive it's an availability issue and many of them are small and don't have the deep pockets to secure other sources that may require them to purchase way more bulk material just to get their order accepted.

Great commentary. Your hair looks awesome. You have to be careful watching the influencer, I have seen some of them try a product and say it was trash, then a year or 2 down the road, they get a sponsorship from that same company/product, their hair come out the same way, but they love it now.

Your hair looks great! It’s looks healthy and I love this style. I just read about the no butters and oils on Twitter about a month ago. I decided to try it because I was tired of my hair feeling like a chore. I wore braids for six months because I was just tired of my hair. So the thought of a very simple process sounded great to me. I appreciate your honesty in your videos. 🙂

I have started the 30day detox and I tune into the lives on Instagram. It has been a swift shift for me…before I was on the aruyvedic journey. Saved myself £32 (estimate) hair oil. Have staples for cleanse, condition and styling…done. The only aruyvedic practices I will be doing drinking fenugreek tea.

I think it's awesome that you have for submerged yourself in the 30 day hair detox the right way. It really shows people that just because something is TRENDING doesn't mean it's a TREND. This is basic science for hair...a way of life. I love how you took accountability without offense being a non pro influencer. Yes viewers are definitely responsible for their actions but we have to watch how, where and what seeds we eventually plant. As a stylist and the pro mentor in SSC I love your videos and hope to see you back in the society. It's nice when pro info and influencers can collide. 😊

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with detox challenge. Your hair looks great and hydrated. I am also doing shampoo, condition and style working with my stylist and my hair greatly improved. However, I have to have the henna completely cut off when I revisit my stylist because as I detangle, it makes my hair feel like velcro. My roots to midsection of my hair feels so much soften. I just need to have the henna ends remove. I appreciate your your story. Thank you again for sharing.

Today is July 8th, 2022 and I never understood why some women stopped using butter and oils on your hair. I don't understand how they have forgot how to take care of the hair from when you were a little girl. I only come on here to see different hair styles. I know how to take care of my natrual hair. I have been using Cantu products since my hair started growing back from having breast cancer twice and a oil mixture.

Don't let them shame you fro being a content creator. you should be proud for what you do bc each person makes their own choices. we come to KZitem for inspiration, ideas, and entertainment. Some people are follower types and will do anything they see online. Imo that's a them problem LOL Lastly, please be aware of the potential for water damage with this method. I was watching your video about not seeing growth for 10 years and wouldn't want you to be disappointed and have a set back. Make sure to keep your hair strong as all that water can break down the hair over time. Wishing you success!

Having too much water in the hair wouldn't happen this way. When tue hair is in need of protein then she'd go to or consult with her stylist for the appropriate protein treatment because they're not created equal.

you said a mouth full. with the hair goals not predicated on how long you can pull your hair at the nape of your neck. I have never understood that. cause the hair at the nape is always longer. i never understood why not measure in it's natural form. and yes the masking situation. ok had to stop when you got to that point cause you said that yess honie.

In my opinion this is just another bandwagon for the “natural hair community”. I say that there is no RIGHT WAY to manage your hair that is universally applicable. Everyone’s hair is different. What fits one does not necessarily fit all. Do you.

Thank You for Watching! I agree it may be another bandwagon and different methods work for different people. I decided to give it a try because I haven't gotten the results I wanted trying different approaches. This is the first one I've seen backed by stylists and a comprehensive consumer course. So I'm seeing how it works for me and documenting along the way. So far I like the results
