I try to go to the Dollar store and spend about $50-$75 to buy toiletries for the local Women’s Shelter. They have plastic shoe boxes that I fill with shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrushes, hair brushes etc. I try to put together 7 boxes each time. I alternate this with the same boxes filled with crayons, small coloring books, decks of cards , jump rope, etc for the kids. Something to think about. Also many of these women leave their homes with only the clothes on their backs so when I have extra I buy packs of panties, socks and kids T Shirts and socks too. I pick them out on Amazon and have them delivered to the shelter. It takes 15 minutes and really fills a need.

To add to the stretching foods part, I use lentils (the orangish ones) in a barbecue beef(or turkey if desired) casserole with cornbread on top. You mash the cooked lentils together with the beef and mix in your barbecue sauce and my kids eat it up after it's topped with the delicious cornbread and baked. Also, any cheap veggie like celery, onion and carrot, I chop up finely and add to meat dishes to bulk up the meal for less.

YES That salt sells for over $4 elsewhere!! Yes to the rice, oatmeal and beans lentils and that MILK is great... Even have soy or regular. We use it to cook for sure and for cereal to. We don't drink milk.... But it's good tasting and well worth the price! You can get a case online it was still $1.00. Everything is $1.00 I heard that they were going to raise it to the $1.25 but I'm not sure if they have yet.

My husband and I have stopped frying chicken. We put it in the slowcooker instead, add an onion and 1 liter of water and let it cook on high for about 6 hours until the meat is really very tender. Then we take it out of the broth (which we always use in soups or risottos etc.) and shred the meat. This way, you get a lot of volume from one chicken breast. Added to warm dishes or salads, you get a little bit of meat with each bite, and so it feels as if the dish had much more chicken in it than it actually has.

I love your videos! My husband and I have always been good managers and stewards of our money. My husband worked for the same company for 34 years and they shut down in 2019. He took a new job that was very physical and quite demanding for health insurance basically, as we are also debt and mortgage free and has done that for 2 years. Well at 56 he said he is tired of working such a physical job and will be changing departments within the school district that he works for so now he will be working 6 hour days and be on the student schedule which he will be off all summer and of course only work when school is in. We have chickens, a garden and a backyard of fun. (Swimming pool and hot tub). We have everything we need plus a savings for harder times if needed. God has blessed above measure and yes LESS IS MORE! It’s very freeing to live frugal. Blessings to you and Paul from Danny and Sharon in Kentucky!

Cook one of those bacons and freeze in an airtight container. When you want bacon, take out what you would eat and reheat in the microwave for a couple of seconds. It tastes like you just made it. Great when you need crumbled bacon for a recipe or if you are pressed for time. It really speeds up making bacon and eggs for breakfast.

It's a beautiful day in Virginia. It's so good to enjoy the sunshine and see everything starting to grow. If you have access to a sunny window, you can plant some herbs or arugula to enjoy. Use them to enhance your scratch meals and save money. If you have any garden space, start research on how to grow tomatoes or whatever you like. Be ready to plant them when the soil warms. All you can grow will help your budget. Thank you for these tips!

At Dollar Tree I buy greeting cards. I love to send cards to people for no particular reason and they have a great selection of cards for all reasons and seasons. (At much lower cost than the Hallmark store next door.). Also I buy the plastic tablecloths in rectangular shapes to use in the garden for frost covers and also as drop cloths when painting. Finally I love their storage bins and use them in all of our closets and cabinets. Oh wait, one more. I buy the plastic dishwashing bins and use them to sort food in our fridge that way my husband doesn’t eat the leftovers I want to use for another meal and like items are stored together.

No dollar tree over here in the Netherlands but to a thriftstore I went yesterday ;) And found some tissues with egg prints on it and I'm going to do my DIY with some acrylic paint, modge podge and an empty egg carton and make it fancy so I can give my mother in law our eggs somewhat fancy during easter. If you find some small photoframes you can turn them into pinholders, you take some fabric and stuffing and glue it to a piece of carton and push that through the frame and secure it and it's adorable to have next to your sewingmachine or to use to pin your earings on, there are many ideas. Take care dear Emmy and Paul as always a joy to see you and listen to you both. Xo Vleer.

When I go in the dollar tree, I also go in for specific items. Their greeting cards are awesome. They are made by a Hallmark company and you get two for a dollar, which cannot be beat. I also find their ink pens to be worth the money. Right now recently I started using the scrubbing bubbles tablets in my toilet bowl. Those are cheaper there than they are in the grocery store and I really like them. Another KZitemr recommended Scotty’s facial tissues when they were 160 tissues in a box. Those are definitely worth the money. Since Covid, the tissues by my grocery store brand stick together and shed when you pull them out of the box. I haven’t priced the Scotty’s tissues in the grocery store but sometimes cheaper is not always better so I’m not gonna get the grocery store brand of facial tissues anymore. I will look for the 160 tissues per box at dollar tree and buy them there when I can.

I have been stretching our meat out I do 2 chicken breasts for my family of 5 but our chicken breasts are over a pound each and I dice it up small for fried rice or chicken and rice casserole. In dollar tree I buy deodorant, 3 in 1 shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, sponges, craft stuff for my teen daughter, batteries, lime away toilet cleaner, kitchen utensils I could go on and on thus the reason I can't get out for less than $75 . You are such a joy to watch Emmy. Stay safe and stay frugal.

About two months ago I went into the dollar store and bought a dish tub and a scented bag of Epson salt and had a two dollar foot spa at home. Best to dollars I’ve ever spent.

I'm not much of a dollar tree shopper but I hit the meat and other clearance every time I'm in Kroger. Just got a ham for $1.29lb! Into the freezer it went. If prices are ugly come holiday time, we're already set. If they don't, great. We do eat ham at other times. 😊

They practically gave you the bacon! Good buy. Agree about keeping some prepared foods when you don't want to cook. Pizza is a great have on hand meal. You aren't going to eat anywhere for a buck! Those pictures are beautiful. I am always doing that with cards that I receive.

I agree with you 100% on cooking at home. Even with grocery prices up we can still save so much $$$ by cooking at home. I'm making meat ball sandwiches today that will cost 1.65 per sandwich vs. 5.65 at our local subway. Coffee 33 cents a cup vs. 1.00 at McDonalds. And... My sausage egg muffin cost 1.50 vs. 4.89 at our McDonald's and 6 cents for a cup a tea vs. 1.99 at the diner, just a few examples.

I’m new to your channel and love your content!! Your home is beautiful (watched the home tour video) and that chicken recipe looked amazing. The art on your office wall came out perfect! Great idea. I recently moved cross country and the moving van was delayed so I purchased a lot of kitchen essentials from dollar tree (when it was still $1). Plates, bowls, coffee mugs, water glasses, cutting boards, chef knives (the all silver ones are best ) place mats, strainer and spatulas. I’m very happy with all. You do have to be careful some things aren’t worth even the “cheap price”. When the moving van finally arrived I got what I wanted and donated the rest to the ministry thrift shop. I love the items I got from DT and felt good to be able to give things away to help others.

That's exactly what I spend per week in Canada, too (including cleaning products/basic hygiene)! Family of 5....me, hubby, 3 adult children. The 2 oldest kids buy maybe, half their own snacks and lunches, and maybe 1 supper/week. I provide the rest. My youngest eats all his meals from home, but doesn't snack.

@@amandazplace5663 our oldest is saving money for a downpayment on his first home, he pretty much eats at home unless he visits his girlfriend's family. We cover all food expenses in this home, sadly this gen needs all the help they can get. It is so hard to stretch things when my boys are like locusts lol.

I buy the shelf stable milk quarts. My Dollar Tree has whole, 2% and 1%. I prefer the 2%. First of all I like it. My cat likes it. I can go a long time between shopping trips having it on hand, I especially appreciate it in the winter. I've have looked the processor up online and they are a progressive dairy and in the US. This is also a great item to donate to food pantries. It's always appreciated.

I have (finally) learned not to buy more produce than I will eat before it goes bad. I am diabetic and must watch my carb intake. I buy only one large apple at the time and cut it into four pieces. What a treat for four days. There was a time when I would have bought a bag of apples and although I always ate them eventually, the last ones were not nearly as good as the first ones in the bag. It's not smart to get a good deal on something you don't eat timely. I love your new framed pictures. I also smiled seeing how you froze your broth in a former ice cream container...you frugal woman!
