Thank you for this. I have a M43 with similar problem and same style bolts. I was prepared to remove the head but I'm glad I didn't. Note: 8/10 were stripped, good luck for me lol. EDIT: I managed to repair all 8 threads!

I just discovered 2 stripped valve cover bolts on a 12 Chevy Cruze and I put gasket maker on top of both to try to hold them I place and stop oil from leaking out till I can get my hands on that tool and try to fix it for my self.

I'll be doing this to my D series Honda engine that I'm swapping into my CRX. Looks like I'll be using an identical kit as well! Thanks for posting this video. You made it look much easier than I anticipated. I also liked that you added in some Loctite, which is something I wouldn't have thought to use.

I have the same problem with my e36, some how, someone didn’t use a torque wrench and stripped few thread holes.

I didn’t have extracting tools, so I just drilled one size bigger through the hole fkn thing and put a lock nut on the bottom 😅. Safe to say, it worked out well! Haven’t removed it :))

I had the No. 11 bolthole at the rear to do. Prick of a job :) Previous owner had broken the bolt off.I It was seized. Tried every strategy to remove it. Very slowly I drilled it out 3mm drill bit. Every time I thought I might have been off centre, I would down tools and walk away. Took a week. Wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Question for m50b25, we have different valve cover bolts where the tread is inside the block, so I get the same kid and use a whole different valve cover bolt or get a different kit?

Dude I won’t even lie I used that to screw a valve cover bolt the other day and stripped the treads I was trying to go easy too i was being lazy I should’ve done it by hand but yeah I’m not too worried about it it still threads but it doesn’t snug down all the way if it leaks I’ll do some rtv. The motor is a temporary motor while I have my other one being sent out but yeah mistakes happen

Hopefully the bolt for your valve cover r the ones on the outside of the gasket. If not, then ya, it may leak some

If these are stripped....could it cause misfires? The reason I'm asking is because we had misfires on all cylinders. Replaced coil packs, spark plugs, oxygen sensors etc still was misfiring and the code that came up said a possible repair needed could be one of the intake gaskets. They said that it's possible the valve cover isnt sitting like it should..that's when we discovered at least 2 of the bolts were stripped out and it wasn't tightening down. Could that cause an oxygen issue/cause it to misfire?
@BimmerZen
Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can easily have vacuum leak whee the bolts are missing and that will cause poor idle and poor engine performace

@@BimmerZen thanks. Maybe this thread repair kit will be the end all of these dang misfires. I was really hoping we didn't have to get into fuel injectors, so I hope so

As far as I know you need the M10 repair kit. Also make sure you get the correct thread pitch kit based on your bolt.

If i have a broken bolt, do i have to rethread it? Or can i just extract it? I broke one where the valve cover goes
@BimmerZen

You can remove the broken bolt and just try and torque that position to 10 Nm. If it holds, then it should be OK.
