Akmeshit Street starts from Sarayshyq Street and crosses Tauelsizdik, Dostyk, Sygynak, and Almaty streets. Its length is 5,607.3 meters. Former name - Me33.
Akmeshit refers to an ancient fortress that once existed where the current city of Kyzylorda is located. The fortress was built in 1817. According to historian scholars, the Kokand Khan Umar Khan constructed the Akmeshit fortress. Inside the fortress, there were around 50 houses made of clay, two mosques, a madrasa, ammunition storage, and wells. After the October Revolution, the fortress was renamed Akmeshit again. In 1925, it was renamed Kyzylorda, and it served as the capital of Kazakhstan until 1929.
