I live in Belgium and i speak french too. "Santé" is cheers and also mean "health". In french, when you say "santé" you actually want good health and life to other people... This come from middle age and antiquity! (Our medieval ancestors probably believed that drinking alcohol and drunkenness were good for our bodies... lol...) Toasting would also have helped to gain confidence with his companions, by discouraging potential poisoners. (glasses were wooden or metal mugs. Hit hard your mugs and the liquid spread out in other mugs.) This music is very sarcastic and there is a double meaning in the music, who talks about invisible workers/people so nobody cares and who work for priviliged people who spit on them... These invisible people, no one ever wishes them "Santé"! Only poisoners for them... Also this verse when he say: "Albert, quand on trinque, tu ramasses les verres" (Albert, when we toast, you pick up the glasses) have a double meaning. The first is the one we hear, talking about people who clean your dirty table! The second comes from a French expression "On trinque à votre place" (we toast in your place) speaks about the people who pay for the mistakes of the boss who manage them. "you little employee will take full responsibility for the mistakes of your boss" This verse can be political too.

Stromae is a genius of the words, the subtitles gives you the idea of what he's saying, but he really plays with the words sounds in French. I always loved that with him. And every music he made by the past as a catchy melody that makes you want to dance, but the lyrics are never very happy (but truthful), and that's really impressive. This comeback after 6 years (his second album dropped in 2013 and he stopped his tour in 2015) made me sooo happy, I was missing his music so much!

As a Belgian myself, it's the meaning and the story behind his lyrics that got me into his music. It's incredible. Some compare him to the present day Jacques Brel, a well known Belgian singer from the past. Very poetic lyrics full of meaning and very theatrical performances. Loved your reaction to both of his songs! :)

The meaning of his songs is deep and layered. And when you can understand French it gets even better as he's playing with words. The beat is based on African morna, from Cape Verde. Stromae is a big fan and he even did a tribute to morna's "barefoot diva", Cesaria Evora.

In all the reactions that I've seen until now, you're the first one and the only one who have got the message right!!! Great!! Keep it going!! 👏🏼👍🏼 by the way, the guitar kind of sound of the beginning and that is the base of this song is from Peru which happens to be the country from which lots of the immigrants in Europe come from, there are a lot of peruvians going to work there and having those kind of jobs but also all the different origins of the dancers in the video.

The groove/beat that you're referring to is what we usually call being in "the pocket" .... what is amazing is if you could hear the click track it would sync up perfectly, so the time reference aka the tempo are perfectly align... it's in the little silent gap in between each click...that is where the groove or the pocket is....

Santé is what you say in French when you toast to someone, like Cheers. It also means "health", so "to your health". I wonder if he also means we should toast to people who don't have "health". Check out his song "Formidable", filmed in Brussels when he pretended to be drunk. Many other Belgian musicians for you to check out, for example Arsenal with the song "Estupendo" and many more. You may like the beat, like you enjoyed this one. Triggerfinger with a cover of "I follow rivers". Daan with "Swedish Designer Drugs" or the instrumental "Housewife".

Im sorry thats how you feel, but when a Reaction actually has value to it, and helps others understand music better, and where the artist is coming from, i feel you're 100% wrong, but some will never understand that, and that's ok, but when there are reactors that just play the song, and don't talk about it, just bop there head, i agree, they be scamming the artist and there community!!

@@its_casza3342 Reaction videos work on confirmation bias.... the song is already liked/loved by the audience.... they are attracted by the song title and the artist's name...the reactors name is very rarely in the video tag... The 'reactor' in search of 'likes' and 'subscriptions' will play to the viewers by complimenting and confirming their 'good taste'. You don't get a 'like' if you tell your viewer he's wrong and the song he loves is crap!! So they smile, inhale some magic smoke and proceed to explain the meanings of the paroles from a language they don't understand!
