Building a strong and powerful posterior chain is essential to bringing the force needed to run faster and avoid common running injuries.
Our posterior chain is the most influential muscle group in the body. Our glutes, hamstrings, and lower back tremendously affect our athletic prowess: they are the prime movers of forward propulsion!
And for runners, forward propulsion is EVERYTHING!
In addition to forward movement, our posterior chain also helps to stabilize our spine and hips, keeping our body upright and aids in treatment of lower back pain.
We're not done yet...our posterior chain also plays a BIG role in getting up off the floor, picking up heavy packages and lifting children(and grandchildren!)
With such a huge role in our running, athletic performance and our every day life, we can't take programming our posterior chain lightly. So this month, as with many of our challenges, we are putting a lot of focus on this very important area.
These exercises are meant to be quick and powerful as opposed to the slow eccentric exercises we did last month!
