Stroudsburg high grad of 2006 here. Was remembering that pet shop across from time out that became Garfield’s, a burger joint shortly after that and even before that there was a pet store on the other side by JC Penny. Haven’t lived there in a while but I heard it’s in rough shape with the shop rite that replaced Bon ton as the main attraction. My favorite as a kid was the end with Kaybee toys and Walden books right next to it, a great place for comics and goosebumps books. Food court in clockwise order had orange julious, McDonald’s, an and w which became boardwalk fries, a Chinese takeout, subway and sbarrro on the opposite end. Saw so many movies there and in the early stages before it became cinemark the theatre was divided from 2 ends in the mall. Awesome time warp, wish there was more footage

Back when I lived here as a teen from 2001-2004 we spent so much time at this mall and the old Foxmoore movie theatre. It’s sad to see most of it gone or slowly disappearing.

I do have more Stroudsburg, the best other thing I probably have is the holloween parade from 1999. Nothing from Leigh Valley I'm afraid.

Dude, as someone who's gone to the stroud mall all his life, would it amuse you to know that 39 year old me remembers seeing little kid you running around being recorded when I was 16 years old on the same day?

Me too, I would always ask to go to the EB to play with the demos. Fun fact I live in Australia now. We don't have gamestop it's still branded EB games looks like GameStop though.

Very cool, thanks for this! I was writing a KZitem script for 80s Mall experiences, and decided to look up my childhood mall (this one!). I was mostly kicking around the Stroud Mall in the 90s, but the 2000-era mall looked about the same. I still have some Time-Out tickets.

I remember the mall in the 80s... HESS's' was the anchor for the whole mall. There was a JC Penney and Sears came along in 1994. I left the Poconos in 2001... the mall was already losing popularity by then but still would be considered strong by what we see everywhere today. Malls will one day disappear.

Being a resident of Stroudsburg since 1990, I remember the mall before they built the old Sears, which is now another furniture store. I worked at the Sbarro's in 1999. I used to get Nintendo games from "Saturday Matinee" when I was younger. The old Kay-Bee toy store where I bought a PS1 with my own money. So many thoughts come to mind watching this video. If you were a certain age, there were particular stores you'd visit. Plus the movie theater was always an attraction and probably the only thing keeping the mall operating presently. Going to see a movie there, we'd go to the CVS that used to be in the mall, buy our stuff there and then sneak it in. There was a period where I didn't go to the mall much because I moved and didn't have a vehicle but now I'm driving again and going to the mall now is just sad. No upkeep at all outside. The parking deck used to be full at an early stage in the morning and now it's pretty empty until the afternoon. The lower parking deck looks better as they have cleaned it up some but it's still meh. I'm from NJ so malls are our thing but the Stroud Mall served it's purpose for the most part for the area.

The big thing I think is look at the difference in variety of stores and density of shoppers. Unless you were going during a weekday when everybody is at work and school, from the 1980s to early 200s a mall would be consistently packed. Last time I went to the local mall was three weeks ago. Saturday around lunch time, place is a ghost town with maybe a hundred people in the whole mall. A third of the storefronts are empty, and what's left are a Dick's sporting goods, a Boscov's and some chain clothing stores plus a couple of chain ripoff jewelers clearly only there because their lease hasn't run out. Aside from the Dick's sporting goods no store has more than one or two customers at any given time, most of them are empty most of the time. None of the specialty stores that used to be in malls, kiosks gone, half the food court empty. On a summer Saturday with kids out of school the movie theater is empty. This is the only mall for more than an hour in any direction. Don't blame Amazon, or changing tastes, the stores left in malls are the places you want to go in person because you can't quite trust an online order to be right. Yet they are still empty. It's because there isn't enough money left in the community to support the businesses anymore. Economic squeeze on the working class that supports retail has sucked all the surplus out of the community. The money that used to go to buying stuff in the mall has been redirected to essentials and it's leaving all those businesses dried up and dying.

I miss that arcade back in its prime so much 😭 I never got to experience all too much of the earlier stages of the mall like Lil' William in the vid but it's still such a different world in its current state. An absolute ghost town both in the manner of shops and the number of people. As we speak, there actually isn't even that pizza shop in the food court anymore, there's nothing in the food court at all! The only place to get food is good ol' trusty Auntie Anne's 😔

You like Peter Stuart as "Winkelman" in "Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory" Mel Stuart's son. His daughter, Madeline, told him that "Charlie & The Chocolate Factory" should be made into a movie, with (now-Warner's Bros.) and Quaker Oats which resulted in "Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory" I liked Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka!
