I'm leaving a career in research and starting a consulting engineering journey now. This is very important and I love your videos man.

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. Grateful if you could do more videos like this! Your personal advice and perspective, especially coming from your extensive experience, are incredibly valuable. They are a great reference for my work and decision-making.👍👍👍

The level of checking should depend on the complexity of the project. In the UK there are risk classifications that determine the level of check required. Unless your designing a high rise structure or something of that ilk then a simple check is all that is required ie scrutinise the loads adopted and the stability mechanism and check sample calculations. An experienced engineer will have an intuition as to what isnt right by looking at the drawings. Daz is spot on regarding the commercial impracticalities of doing an extended check on every job. You would never make any money.

Hi Dazz, great video!! I was wondering what's the support condition at the bottom of this frame, as the node is pinned. Do you take into account the rotational stiffness from the connection (e.g. box frame), or just assume it free to rotate, and go with somewhat bigger column sections? Keep up the great work!!
@EverydayDazz

Start with pinned. Need to consider what the columns are being fixed down to and whether or not a moment can be resolved in the connection/foundation

Hi dazz. Kojo from Ghana. Appreciate your videos. Really educative. Saw that you using tekla structural designer. Question: how do you handle long-term deflection in tekla structural designer?

In reference to concrete structures?

I think for slabs it’s ok, you have to setup the parameters correctly and then look at cracked deflections. For beams you might need to modify the Young’s modulus to account for a cracked section to get long term deflections.

Hey Daz great video, I want to hear your opinion on something, so basically I saw a picture of a mid rise Rcc building and it appears to be using concrete bracing system which is confusing since one of the axial forces on a brace is tension, what do you think?
@EverydayDazz
Жыл бұрын
If it is concrete bracing with reinforcement then it can resist tension.
