Lol!!! The surname thing especially when dimasas meet bodos is always interesting and awkward, we easily understand meaning of Daolaguphu and Langthasa. My first dimasa friend had Daolaguphu surname, when he told me his surname I was like "what ?? Do you mean white chicken??" Hehe we are very close friends now. P.S In Bodo white is "Guphur" and naked is "Lonthong/Langthia", also "Maram" means smelly too. If someone gives Bodos/Boros a paper with Dimasa words we can figure out the meaning more or less but its when Dimasas speak/conversate in their language it starts getting really tricky to catch up.

Hi vishal am from Arunachal I belong to adi tribe I think out customs n traditions r quit similar . we too worship nature .we worship spirits both good and bad spirits.we believe good spirit brings prosperity and happiness,bad sprit brings suffrings and diseases so we offer sacrifices to both sprits .we too cant get married to same surname or from same clan,Its an offence more like a sin.if u marry someone from same clan .u will not allow to stay in that same community or village and u'll be not invited in any ritual ceremony's ,n people will not drink or eat any thing from your side.

@Nirupamify

tolerant jyotirmoy Assamese is a relative term. Dimasas are the forebearers of the kacharis, and because of geographical isolation they have managed to retain their cultural identity so they do not call themselves Assamese. Whereas those Kacharis (including Dimasas) living on the Brahmaputra Valley freely call themselves Assamese. Especially those living in Upper Assam Districts.

Nobody in Assam is originally Assamese. Many call the Assamese speakers as Assamese people. But the Assamese speaking community is made of Kalitas, Bamuns, Rabhas, Koch Rajbongshis, Mishings, Ahoms, Goriyas, Tiwas, Sylhetis, Mariyas, Mymensinghiyas, Assamese Sikhs, Bengalis, Karbis, Dimasas etc etc. For many Assamese is a geographical term. Like how Afghans include Pashtos, Daris, Tajiks, Uzbeks, Hazaras etc; Nepali includes Khas, Gurungs, Tamangs, Maithilis, Magars etc. Assamese is also a linguistic and cultural term. The same people use it in both ways. For people, the Assamese identity is very confusing. So it's not so surprising if someone ask you that you're from Assam but why you're not Assamese? I call myself Assamese as a geographical, linguistic and cultural term. I speak Assamese though half of my relatives are Sylheti and some are Nokhailla. So I call myself Sylheti, Nokhailla and Assamese. But these identity doesn't matter much for me. I can have different identities based on my interest, character, genes etc.
