In my opinion if you want just a Reverb Pedal go with the Blue Sky. It does exactly what it needs to. If you want to dive completely into some really great sounds and customize different parameters of your Reverb, then Big Sky is where it's at. The Big Sky simply has more to offer. :)

I agree - sometime too much choice can be a bad thing. I like the simplicity of the Blue Sky, and the fact that you can see where the settings are at without having to wiggle each knob to check which position it is actually set to....that saves a lot of guesswork for me.

Man... what an amazing tone!! I'd say that the Big does not really sound better but gives you way more options, so you can set your reverb exactly how you want it to. Due to its complexity, I see the Big's applications more in a MIDI based setup or in the studio. Whereas the Blue is the choice for standard (stage) pedalboard setups. It's better if you want to do some quick adjusting. Can't really do that on the Big scrolling through patches.
@vernal6944

Actually, you can save many presets on the Big Sky to where the Blue Sky you can't save any. So to me really the Big Sky is much better option for playing live because you just program them in Bank One, bank 2, Bank 3 and just hit 1 foot switch to get to your next song to where the Blue Sky you would have to do some tweaking and remember all the settings.
@michaelcraig9449

Just get a FM3 or FM9 and get even better reverbs and much, much more. The days of the pedal board are mostly over. Value wise, these are far more expensive if you consider how many pedals you would have to try to buy to come close to what is in one FM3/FM9. These pedals sound nice but I will keep my FM9- thank you. Used for $50 I might consider one if I needed a grab and go pedal.

Nice comparison, pretty thorough (though you could spend hours demoing the BigSky). The shimmer on the BigSky is just way more flexible because you can set the specific intervals and add mod to taste. BlueSky is just Room Shimmer (think this is octave + 5th), Plate Shimmer, Spring Shimmer with no mod options. Both great pedals depending on what you need.

***** the bluesky does not do a delay. What they are referring to is how long it takes for the reverb to come in after hitting a note. It is a great pedal. The bigsky is definitely something to upgrade to.

No.You don't need the BigSky if you already have the BlueSky,don't upgrade ,just buy the Immerse reverberator it has delay and echo ;) stacking BlueSky and immerse will give you more options than having only BigSky.Not to mention the different killer algorithms in both pedals.Two different great sounding reverbs .Think about it.

I think Blue Sky has a feature that the Big Sky does not. And that is you can have Shimmer on either Plate, Room or Spring settings and each pair gives a different sound. Can also do the same with Mod and Norm! Is this possible on Big Sky yo have shimmer on plate or room?

THe functionality of the Big Sky is great, it also has more parallel mix, rather than series - so as a result the the Bluesky can sound more trebly from the effect. That said, to my ears, the decay and mix and cycle swells are more (natural which is evident in the long decay). However, the fellow in the vid would have done better to pre-match each of the bluesky settings with the big sky. The demo could have have been more useful to then switch between each, without the talking. In this way, each of the bluesky's settings could be demo'd to other. Also, with a least 2-3 different decays with matching tone with the same riff for each decay, then on the the next effect setting (plate, then, room etc). I do appreciate the decent digital recording effort. However, with different riffs, talking while tweekings....even then the tweeking was prepared close enough, riffs different, the immediacy of the comparison wasn't there.... However, this is the only comparison vid of these out there.... maybe a future vid??

Is it me or does the blue sky's shimmer sound way better than the big sky? The big sky sounds very thin and shrill where the blue sky is a little more subtle and creates more of a 'pad'. The only thing I like about the shimmer on the big sky is the capability to adjust the tunings of the shimmer... owning the big sky, I'm a little disappointed in the stark difference in that mode.

Question for you... How do you feel about the Polara's sound quality in comparison to the Strymon's? Obviously I expect the Strymon to be better, and it's way more versatile, but if you rated the Blue Sky at a 10 for sound quality, where would you rate the polara? Debating on snagging the Polara for now, or just making the real plunge :-)
@glassjaws2155
8 жыл бұрын
There are a lot of good reverb units out there. Polara is very good sounding and is great for "basic" reverb. I don't have the blue sky but I do have the Big Sky. I'd give the Big Sky a 10 and the Polera a 7.5. One thing I absolutely hate about the Polera, and other digitech pedals is they make the lettering super small. Forget seeing it standing up, you have to grab the pedal and put it up to your face to view the lettering. This gets really annoying. Unless you plan on using it so much you memorize the controls, I'd advise against it if that is going to bug you.

I believe the answer is NO, you do not HAVE to run stereo, I've actually never played a pedal where stereo was required, but stereo is preferred, for multiple reasons, but there shouldn't be any reason why you MUST.
