What's a good setting for analog delay type setting such as the carbon copy? Thanks
@strymon
5 жыл бұрын
The Carbon Copy effect is based on analog bucket brigade chips, not tape or a spinning metal platter like what Volante provides. You can still get warm, vintage sounding delays with the drum and tape settings on Volante, especially if you turn up the WEAR, this is not intended to sound like a bucket brigade delay like our Brigadier pedal or the dBucket setting on TimeLine.

Incredible pedal. I've been having tons of fun with it. However, there's one thing that annoys me. There seems to be no way to just turn off LEDs when you're not using it, even when it's not on. The only way I guess is to unplug it from the power supply each time. Is that an acceptable solution? Or it's best to keep it powered up all the time. Would this reduce the lifetime of circuitry and LEDs significantly?
@juanfichtl2011
3 жыл бұрын
I've built a couple of pedals myself and I can tell you that in my experience leds rarely break. I've had boss pedals from the 70s with the original led indicator. Even if it did go out it's pretty easy to fix if you're reasonably handy with a soldering iron granted that you know which way is the anode and which is the cathode. Don't worry about it
@Quicksilver_Cookie
3 жыл бұрын
@@juanfichtl2011 Yes, modern LEDs have ridiculous potential lifespan. It's mostly the circuitry I'm concerned with. Since it is apparent it's literally always on regardless of the actual pedal being engaged with a switch. I know many people turn off their pedals from power completely when not in use. I never bothered, especially having a clean isolated power supply. Maybe I should plug it into a power strip with a switch to turn off. I honestly never heard of pedals suffering from always being on, but I don't want to take chances with pedals that are this expensive.
@strymon
3 жыл бұрын
Hey there! There's no way to turn off the LEDs, so if you need them totally off you would need to disconnect the pedal from power. That being said, you can leave the LEDs on for extended periods of time and there should not be any issues :)

@@strymon I was just passing by again, and thought I'd leave an update after almost a year of owning this pedal. I'd like to say that this is as incredible as it ever was, it never gets old. And it will probably never leave my pedalboard. I'm not even exaggerating, but every single time I pick up my guitar, every single day I find some new sound in this. It lures you in with it's apparent simplicity, which is a compliment to an exceptionally intuitive user interface. But an hour later you still find yourself twisting knobs, and experimenting with head configurations. It's like exploring an alien world. This is really an experience I'm looking for in this hobby. I'm not a gigging musician, I don't record. I just play for myself, in my bedroom. And it has been the best form of escapism for me for over a decade, where I can forget all the worries and get lost in my thoughts. And this device has been a huge help for me in that regard. I'd just like to thank Strymon for not only making an exceptionally high quality product, but giving somebody an amazing experience, a therapy of sort. That's worth more than the price I paid for it.

Been playing with this pedal for a few weeks now and absolutely love it! I have a few other delays that I also love, but don't come close to this in both sound and fun factor. One thing I am not understanding is how are you getting such a prominent delay sound with the echo level at noon? I seem to always need mine turned up 3 o'clock to get the echo presence like this. Is it because you are recording in stereo?
@strymon
5 жыл бұрын
It is difficult to tell what you could be hearing as everyone monitors the audio from our site in many different ways which could give different results. Also, using different instruments with different output levels would give different results. Hotter output guitars provide a louder signal to the processing which could provide more prominent delays, etc.

Is there a preamp like in the old binson echorec - maybe controllable with the record level? And can you use it when turning off the echoes/repeats - so just using it as the preamp for fuller sound?
@strymon
4 жыл бұрын
Hello! Volante does have an analog JFET preamp, however it cannot be used as a standalone effect as it is a part of the delay sound. REC LEVEL controls the preamp gain of the signal fed into the processor. When turned up, fat and saturated signals are sent to the record head. You can turn this down for cleaner delay signals.

Is there a secondary function for series/parallel like the Dig? Or are they both achievable with the feedback switches?
@strymon
5 жыл бұрын
The DIG and Volante pedals work in completely different ways. DIG is a dual delay that allows you to feed a delay into another in series, or have a separate delay on each side in parallel or ping-pong the delay repeats between the outputs. On Volante, this is a single delay with 4 playback heads set to different tap divisions. Each playback head can be panned independently, but there is no series/parallel feature since it is a single delay.

What kind of trouble are you having? Have you set the pedal to respond to MIDI Clock? Also, if you went through the process of setting the MIDI Channel on Volante while also sending it MIDI clock at the same time, this can cause strange behavior with responding to it. Make sure to disable MIDI clock while setting up the MIDI Channel on the pedal if you went through these steps earlier.

If you engage just playback 3 and feedback 3, do you get a true repeating 8th note in relation to the tap?

Hi Pete, Mine is on order due 8th March. Just wondering how you save to the midi patches after the first 8 favourite slots? I'm using Gigrig G2 to drive midi patch changing in Big Sky & Timeline which is very easy with patch selection on those pedals, cant see how I can make this work with Volante yet though. Will Volante be added to Nixie? Cant wait for this pedal. keep up the great designs.
@strymon
5 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve Heys, thanks for supporting Strymon! :) To save a preset via MIDI: 1) Dial in the sound you would like to save. 2) Press and hold the FAVORITE footswitch until the LED blinks blue. 3) Send a MIDI Program Change message from your MIDI controller (G2) to the Volante and the preset will store to the corresponding preset location of the MIDI Program Change message it received. Now every time you hit that switch, it will recall the Volante preset that corresponds with the MIDI message it receives.
